Do you enjoy debates? How is a debate different than a discussion?...I enjoyed debating more when I was younger. These days I don't want to go "rounds" with anyone. But I do enjoy respectful and open-ended discussions at times...when I have time for them. It seems like debates are all about so-called "winners" or "losers" where discussions are about sharing information and opinions back and forth ....without taking the outcome so personally. How do you feel about it? Thanks....

I don't think of debates in terms of winners or losers. I mean, if you are ona debat team or running for office, maybe... but when I 'debate an issue" with my friends, we aren't worried about who wins and who loses - we're interested in learning from the shared process of examining and challenging ideas.

I think of debates as conversations in which the focus is on pursuing a topic as far as two people can, both sides presenting their view thoroughly, each possibly challenging the other to explain, justify or refine their position.

i prefer arguing.

laugh

debates are just to share both sides of an issue.
not really trying to prove who's right or wrong.
no opinions.
it's all facts.
arguing allows you to say whatever the hell you want to prove you're right and they're wrong.
