This is terrible. I really feel for their famlies, its bad enough to lose someone but to lose them this way and at this time of year is just depressing.
CHICAGO (AP) - The two firefighters who were killed today in Chicago, after being trapped under debris in a burning building, had gone inside to see if any squatters needed to be rescued from the vacant building. Two others who were trapped with them were rescued. In all, 17 firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Authorities speculated that squatters might have been burning debris to keep warm. They say there's no other way for the fire to have started. The fire came exactly 100 years after 21 Chicago firefighters died when a wall collapsed at the Union Stock Yards fire. Two of the firefighters who raced to the scene of today's blaze to try to rescue their colleagues had been at a service marking the anniversary of the 1910 fire. |

truly sad. but an honorable passing for the courageous men, a great thanks to those who put their lives on the line for the rest of us (we, who live on, may not perish such an honorable death)
