Topic: AZ Border Patrol deaths through the years | |

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Border violence has claimed another life in Southern Arizona. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was shot Tuesday night near Rio Rico, and died from his wounds early Wednesday morning. This is far from the first time a Border Patrol agent has died in the line of duty. Several others have given their lives to defend Arizona's border.
In September 2010, Border Patrol Agent Michael Gallagher was killed in a car crash near Sells. He was on patrol, when another car ran into him. The driver was arrested and charged with negligent homicide. Many recall the horrific scene in 2008, when Senior Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar of the Yuma Sector was run over while on duty. Agent Aguilar was trying to set out a deflation device to stop a suspected smuggler who was running from agents. The most recent shooting of an agent was in 1998. Agent Alexander Kirpnick was on patrol near Nogales when he was shot in the head while confronting several suspects. Two other Arizona agents have been shot and killed while on duty. Lon Parker was shot back in 1926 during a battle with an illegal liquor smuggler. That same year, William McKee was shot and killed after he tried to stop a group traveling from Sonora, Mexico. Three other Arizona agents have died in plane crashes, while seven others died in traffic accidents. |
