I've been in S. TX for nearly a decade. I have a fairly new vehicle and baby... I've been dead set on moving to OH. But I'm getting scared about driving/parenting/living alone in all that snow! What if I wreck on the road, or with my child? I couldn't afford that kind of mishap :/ I KNOW lots of ppl do it...I think I just need reassured? lol

akron/canton. i'm know! i'm just worried i may have been overlooking the cons. like here, my babys never sick cause its warm, then all the accidents n ppl trapped for 24hrs on the news, friends saying it takes 4hrs to drive 20mi n such has me questioning things lol. hearing from ppl who raise kids in these environments helps

I raised 3 kids in Ohio u will be fine and if it is to bad u will have to drive slow and learn how to drive in the snow but they do clean and salt the roads. This has been a bad year sometimes we don't even get snow just cold. Most kids just get a cold.

I live in Indiana and I get all the Lake Effect snow, trust me..you will be fine. One thing you have to remember is slow down in the snow. Do you realize how many single mom's do this all the time? IF this is something you want to do, HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF AND DO IT!!

Big moves are always stressful but you sound like a responsible mom if you are thinking about things in the future.

Areas that have snow prepare for the weather and have more tools to cope with it. Yes some times you will have to opt to stay indoors just like you do when it is hotter than a skillet in Texas but even remote areas have developed emergency assistance plans that prevent most problems such as patroling roads that are open. It is just the tiny number get lots of PR to scare people into being smart.

You will definitely want to have certain safety items stashed in your car if you are going to travel in winter but your local Red Cross will be glad to provide you a list or a class to prepare. Few are really all that expensive and easy to find at WalMarts or any auto store. Just Slowing Down, maintaining your car well, and not ignoreing weather advisorys will keep you in the saftey zone in the majority of cases. Most severe weather only takes a few days to clear up on most major roads and employers will understand if you are "snowed in". A few canned supplies and firewood tucked under your bed your confidence will grow as you make friends and enjoy family.

As far as illness your child gets colds from viruses not tempatures. I am pretty sure the fresh crisp clean air will help keep little lungs robust and your baby and you happy.

I live in northern British Coumbia,Canada. I have raised 2 daughters here and they are healthy happy girls. You just need to learn to layer clothing when its really cold and slow down when its icy. You'll be just fine hon!

If this move can allow you a better lifestyle and comfort for you and your baby, then look for the positives in this move. There are weather worries all over the world. I live in the midwest in the cold and snow and I love it. You have to be prepared for the weather and do not venture out unless neccessary. I will take a lotta snow and cold compared to a tornado or massive flooding anytime.
