I am gonna ask, as the token aussie, what is it about the aussie accent people like?....

why is it a cool accent???....of course we can't hear it, so don't know why people like it....

yes you do! You know very well that it is sexy otherwise you wouldnt speak that way...the same way that I know Texish is sexi and women drop thier panties for a "Howdy Ma'am, could I ask for this dance?"

Same reason I choose not to use the popular Gangstah Rappa lingo...cause unlike all the videos...some idiot who hasnt figured out how to wear his clothes and saying "Yo Shawty! Bounce dat @ss 2 uh n***a and let's git retahded" .......you aint getting jack!

Lets face it..if the Australian accent was like a stuttering peewee herman....you would know it.

Now say my favorite line..."G'day mate! Care for a shag?"

Hahahaha!!!....G'day mate?...Care for a shag???

LMAO!

Krups love,....darlin' E,...I'm still waiting on my $7 au....then I'll show what an aussie chick's accent sounds like... pitchfork

Love the CNN/BBC accent!
I really like Liverpool/Manchester/Sydney accent!
When I was a kid, I had a Londonish accent, but, living in the US, had problems w/ teachers telling me that if I was an American, I should speak like an American! Couple that w/ being really poor and I gave in.
Now people say I sound Southern (especially coastal dwellers) and sometimes ghetto (I cuss a lot). But if I watch enough "Dr. Who" my English comes back out.
;-)
Fun post!

Kinda off but still on topic.
I was working late one night and these 3 nurses were talking to each other.
Two of them were Hispanic and one Oriental.
They were speaking to each other in English and I couldn't understand and it was my language :)
Just thought it was funny.

Now I'm English, but there's a huge variation in accents across England, so it's funny to hear people saying they like the "british accent".

I have a kind of fairly neutral well-spoken british accent (a bit of a cross-between mild cockney and upper class queens english with a dash of Uk midlands) due to growing up in the south of England just outside London, but I also lived in Birmingham in the midlands of the UK for several years - and the Birmingham accent (brummie) can be pretty unintelligible at times, and is normally voted worst accent in the UK (no offense to any brummies out there).

So in the US you say "Hi, how are you today?" (at least in Seattle they do!)

In Birmingham (West Midlands) it would be "Hiya Bab, ow's it gewing" (trying to spell it like it sounds!)

In Leicester (East Midlands) it's "Alright me duck, how ya doing"

I use the term "mate" a lot for someone I know well.

Are there any terms like "mate", "Bab" or "me duck" that only get used in certain parts of the US?

it IS funny - both of my sons have Asian girlfriends and when we are all together - the holidays - for example I really have to hone my listening skills
