Gossipmpm, loved the movie too! Friedkin's direction of Blatty's "The Exorcist", easily goes down as one of the top 5 horror movies of all time. Personally, it's always in my top three. It is so horrific and so disturbing that one's movie life changes forever after viewing it. Take it deeper than that. This story is based on supposed fact. Blatty inspiration came from the story of an exorcism on a boy (not a girl) who was 13 and in 8th grade at the time. Thinking that what we are seeing on screen, may have actually happened to some poor kid makes this all the more terrifying to watch. Now onto the meat.

The performances, by ALL players, in "The Exorcist" are top notch and almost painful to watch because they are so believable. Linda Blair. Ah Linda Blair. What this film did to this poor girl must've been so horrendous. It's got to be one of the most amazing performances ever slated to the big screen. It has to be. Ellen Burstyn is amazing as her mother. She plays the part perfectly. Max von Sydow & Jason Miller also get the job done as the priests who actually perform the exorcism on little Reagan.

The music. Terrifying. "Tubular Bells" is probably one of the most famous pieces of music ever heard, based on this movie alone. "Fantasia for Strings". The sound effects. The different languages spoken by the demon. I think that the tracks themselves lend enormous terror to the pictures that flash before us during these two hours.

Lastly, the cinematography and camera work are also very good. Very frenetic, yet at times peaceful - this allows the ghastly images and scenes to sneak up on us.

Horror fans really can never say enough about this film. Whether it be at a party, or really any gathering where movies are discussed, you will NEVER hear this film being left out as a #1 or #2 of all time horror for just about everyone. One of the truly great films of the last 30 plus years, and easily one of the most frightening.

The Blair Witch Project was one of the most boring films I've ever seen. I can only remember all the arguing the 3 did, I think I walked away and did some housework during that last 30 minutes.
