Oddly is it just as bad when a PG-13 movie is outright being a lot more than suggestive about "Love Scenes?"

Heck, even the castle in the Little Mermaid has a intentionally Phallic tower and that is Disney.

So where does the line of smut really go when Mainstream Movies have more sex and violence than a porn movie?

my only beef (no pun intended) with porn is that dehumanizes people, male or female..I know there are a lot of BDSM types out there that are into that..but Im talking mainstream porn..especially when women are objectified..and please,..is it really THAT difficult to come up with a decent story line???

so yeah., porn is sumtty...doesnt have to be..Ive seen some wonderful erotica...but I guess its all about supply and demand...people like sumt, not art, when it comes to watching other people fornicate

People seem to forget there's a HUGE difference between porn of today and porn from the 70's through early 80's. Adult films back then did have story lines- some of the adult horror films had just as good story lines as regular horror, and in most cases had better production value than many low budget horror films of the time.
Water Power '77 was inspired by a real life incident and person. Forced Entry '73- take out the adult scenes and you still have a very intense horror flick about a crazed Vietnam vet on a killing rampage. It was even remade in 1975 as a "regular" film starring Tanya Roberts(though it didn't come close to the original)

And some of the softcore scifi flicks like Flesh Gordon were a launching ground for many young effects artists who would go on to mainstream projects- Rick Baker, Doug Beswick, David Allen, and Jim Danforth.

I have a feeling though that story lines became less important with the coming of home video, I think the film makers realized most people were using their fast forward buttons to get past all the "talking" scenes.

It is the sinful art or the art of sin.

As a former pro artist and pornographer I see porn as just as much of a legitimate artform as anything out there.

How do you compare the Sex pistols with Mozart?
In the end, they made music.

Some art is more appealing to some than others.

For me, DaVinci, George Petty, Antonio Vargas and Donatello were gods.

Warhol, Monet,DeGass and Picasso were no talent hacks that I could have out painted by 4th grade.

In my experience, the people who are ashamed of their own bodies are the ones who rail against porn.

Depictions of sex and actual dildos have been found in ancient tombs in egypt, china, japan, africa, etc

Sex and nudity wasn't a bad thing till the middle eastern religions brainwashed former generations into believing that getting naked and having fun were bad things.

On Bravo or Trio or A&E... one of those offbrand channels, they had a show called Good Clean Porn in which they took some seriously strange old porn movies, cut out all the sex, and had these very poorly acted 15 minute movies. It was HILARIOUS!!! I miss that show...

Also, this one time in Austin, I went to the Dobie and saw a 1970s 3-D porn. THAT was seriously awesome. I mean, the money shot was a little traumatic, but it was so funny. My favorite part was when the lead male, Chickie, told the leading lady, "Oh Tiffany, you're extraordinary!" and she replied, "Oh Chickie, I don't know what that word means."

Depends on how one defines "pornography". (the usual answer of people who fear it is "I know it when I see it" or some variant thereof) Some of what is called porn can be artistic-"high art", but some of it can also be called "low art".

i've watched a few, just not my thing. but i can't help but think that we award oscars to violence, yet when it comes to adult entertainment, we raise red flags and find a need to label that as smut. i find that confusing.
