i read a little bit about it in Wikipedia, but i didn't really understand it...

They are a communist insurgency in India. Nasty and considered
a threat to the government, they are following the path of the
Maoist People's War purportedly to fight class subjugation in
the name of the rights of the poor.

The Indian Govt acknowledges that some of the grievances are just
but also recognizes the movement as an illegal revolutionary force
rather than a legitimate peaceful political movement. About 10,000
have been killed due to the insurgency over the last 20 years.
