The first thing I've done after work for the past three days is watch this trilogy.

Thing is, I don't even like these movies. Samwise Gamgee is the most annoying sidekick of all time. Every time I punch a sandbag, I picture Sam's fat little body swinging back and forth. Nevermind that I don't go to a gym nor have access to a sandbag. The point is IF I did have access to one, that's what I'd do... and I'd have a super serious expression on my face.

But I can't stop watching these stupid movies. Frodo has some mystical hold on me. Curse them. I hates them.

well, Sam represents the humble but loyal servant/friend...eventually the relationship between he and Frodo becomes so emotionally intense that I think it bothers a lot of men because of the homo-erotic element involved, there is a deep sybiotic love between the two hobbits,.

but its not meant to be taken as a "gay" relationship.. In Tolkien´s day the humble but loyal servant was common place among the upper and middle classes..it was considered a "noble" status for a person of humble means to be devoted to his "master"...

Almost nothing better than the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books and the Lord of the Rings movies.

i think gayness was involved.Sam always had a twinkle in his eye every time he looked at Frodo surprised

I grew up reading Lord Of The Rings, and The Hobbit. As a kid I loved watching the Rankin/Bass animated version of The Hobbit, and Return Of The King. And Bakshi's Lord Of The Rings.
I think Jackson and crew did an excellent job of adapting the books into film...I know Lord Of The Ring fans are split on their opinions of Jackson's version- some think it's amazing, others think it's an insult to the books.
Sadly though the live-action version of The Hobbit seems doomed from the start with all the changes it's going through and problems it's having. Too bad Jackson had problems with the studios over the Trilogy or he would have been helming it.

Another excellent adaptation of Lord Of The Rings is the BBC Radio dramatization from the 80's.
