Why do we judge other nations for their forms of barbaric punishment?

Do we really feel that the death penalty here is any better then the punishment in other countries?

noway

Or do we use the forms of punishment that other countries use to lessen them as humans so we can hate them easier?

like i said before, there is a big difference between stoning someone for adultery or passing out fliers than electrocuting someone for capital murder...

So you say.

But is it really different?

It is not.

The laws of the land are followed and the punishment is dished out.

Somehow the US feels superior when they kill too?

Hypocrisy.

it's not the killing, it's what the killing is for...if you think it's ok to kill someone for crimes that are less than the sentence, then why are you always talking against the US? The muslims are the eye for an eye type people, but adultery is a death sentence? the US only enforces the death penalty for capital crimes,IE the murder of a law enforcement officer, or the murder of someone while robbing them. that is more of an eye for an eye. and the US only employs when it has been through the justice system, where the jurors agree to a death penalty. the muslim villagers decide who lives and dies, no central justice system in afganistan. it's called human rights, and the killing of untried peoples that have no say in courts.

This is the ultimate non sequitur ... Oh - what IS a 'non sequitur' ... ? A fallacy resulting from a simple conversion of a universal affirmative proposition or from the transposition of a condition and its consequent ... If B=C and A=B, A=0.

The average time spent on Death Row after conviction is around 8-10 yrs.

Why?
Because our 'barbaric' system of justice makes sure all avenues of appeal have been exhausted.

Not some village Mullah or Iman, but men and women that have spent most of their adult lives studying and applying the law.
They follow a system ( albeit not perfect) that we as a nation have agreed upon, and have elected officials to administer it. (No not every single person with in the legal system is elected)

If we don't like it we can change it.

Not so for some of our more enlightened brethren in lesser developed countries.

The death penalty is based upon a series of laws and circumstances in this country.

In other countries, its not. They execute people on the spot for crimes committed or even just accused of.
They are definately more barbaric, as to where we have a system in place to ensure justice comes first....has nothing to do with hate.

Now there is a statement for you ...preempts you by saying "has nothing to do with hate."

Love that tonka.

The OP is wording the question in a way that suggests the death penalty is based on hate.
As much as she wants it to be true, its not. Its a legal thing, not something based on emotions.

She's trying to overlay a statement within the post, but its not working.
