I was raised to give family members massages like back and neck rubs
when i was little.
No big deal right?

Well, now that I'm older I just feel a little weird about it....
I dont know why, now its starting to bother me, I dont give them
massages anymore though, seems to lost its innocence n

woops, accidently pressed post.
Anyway.

My dad still asks me to gove him neck rubs, well not asks, tells me too,
and i say no, lol.
He moans/grunts which is not cool.

Anybody else had this uncomfortable little issue in their family?

ya after a certain age some kinds of touching just seem inappropriate.
kinda like takin your kids into the bathtub with u. its cute with the 1
yr old but i'm sure as heck not gonna do it with my 7 yr old. same kinda
thing.

Autum, great thread!

I have to wonder if independence/autonomy plays as much a role here
as touching does. I mean, if he didn't -tell- you, but asked you
respectfully, would that change things?

To answer your question about having that issue with my family, no, my
family was so different from yours, that I can't really relate... except
on the autonomy issue, as posted above.

Its not the asking or telling me thats bothering me, its the fact he
does it all the time, I guess next time I will just have to straight
foreword tell him I am not massaging him anymore.
I tell him no every time he wants one, but never formally.

I dont feel molested or anything......its just a matter of
appropriate-ness. lol. I wouldnt want any physical attention from my
kids outside of hugging and kiss-on-cheek from my kids.
Although when they are little cuddling/letting the,m nap on you seems
okay to do.

If you feel uncomfortable with it, don't do it. Just tell your Dad you
don't feel like it. Each of us has our own comfort levels.

I come from a very touchy-feely family. I'll still put my feet in my
mother's lap for them to be rubbed, play with my niece's hair (she is
24) and scratch on everyone (I'm designated back scratcher-my ex still
asks for it-ha!). We all still lay around together and snuggle (fully
clothed, of course).

Braiding it is cool, especially the chats you can have with gal pals
while the braiding....cherished memories.
