I recently changed my o/s from vista to 7. When I did this I neglected to disable this computer as my primary, so now itunes reads this an entirely different computer. The problem with that is that I cannot sync any of my music or update the software on my itouch or I will lose everything and technically my other computer does not exist.

Does anyone know how to orphan my itouch? The help from apple doesn’t really address my situation so they are no help. All they tell me is for me to load the music manually, but who the hell wants to do that every time there is an update or every time you purchase new music?

i tried to reload it and start over, but it still has the old one as the primary when i tried to update the software....they (apple) tell me you can only delete the primary from the primary...ugh!

kc0003,

Are your music files missing or do you just need to grant your "new" computer access?

You are a bonehead for not making a back up of your files.

If you want to transfer from the ipod to the computer you will need to get a program such as this - http://www.copytrans.net/

Good job on that one.

You always have to have a copy of the files on your computer.... your ipod will not work as a transfer device.

i do have them backed up on an external hard drive, but i cannot disable the old computer because it won't let me do that now.

Miss Myka (tech helper extraordinaire)

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your assistance in correcting my recent misfortune with my itouch music player. All of the other customer service reps seemed to be unable or unwilling to understand my dilemma, but you were much more patient and thoughtful. Thank you for that.

Your knowledge and familiarity with, not only the product, but the technical aspects of the entire troubleshooting process was quite impressive. I have sent a letter to Apple and to your department head commending you on your efforts. Maybe with this in combination with your hard work and determination with launch you all the way up to a supervisory position or at the very least earn you a nice 3 to 5% pay increase….you sure deserve it.

Once again, thank you for helping me find a solution to my problem.

Sincerely,

Kevin *****
