The USS Harry S. Truman has returned eight rescued Iranian mariners to an Iranian vessel, the Navy said Friday.

Navy helicopters pulled the fishermen from the sea Wednesday after their boat caught fire. “One of our aircraft reported seeing a fire on the water,” said Capt. Steven Wieman, the aircraft carrier’s Operations officer. Two SH-60 helicopters and search and rescue swimmers were sent to retrieve the men from their life raft.

The Navy provided the mariners with fresh clothing, food, and water while aboard the vessel. “We were fortunate to be in a position where we were able to help our fellow mariners,” said Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll, commander, Carrier Strike Group 10, in a press release. “We were glad that we were able to help deliver them safely to the Chiroo so that they can re-unite with their families and loved ones.”

Through a translator, the fishermen said they were grateful for the treatment received while aboard the Truman.

The aircraft carrier is on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The rescue comes days before Iran is expected to open its first nuclear power plant in Bushehr – a move that experts say could provide the nation with a second way to produce nuclear weapons.

If the roll's were reversed the American fishermen would be held on charges of espionage.

The three students haven't, the Swiss Embassy have been keeping an eye on them for us. The FBI Agent that went missing in Iran I think is still alive, he would be to valuable to kill, all that potential information they will torture out of him.
