Topic: just a friendly reminder

several of us have seen posts in general that should be posted
elsewhere, such as jokes and song threads. As I told one person earlier
I am not so rigid as to expect everything to be wone perfectly and
correctly. However, there are now several threads out there the past
few days soI think we should be a bit more careful about posting in the
proper threads, ok? This helps everyone to be able t find what they are
looking for easier as well.

Thanks everyone.

Daniel,

Thanks for starting this thread! You and I and several others have
requested additional categories in the past...I think many people would
like it to be easier to find things. Especially in general, which tends
to get cluttered.

I understand its going to happen once in a while. And I definitely
understand that new people, who are just learning their way around the
site, will make innocent mistakes. I think we should politely remind
those people about the way this site is organized, and also set 'good
examples'.

I think that this thread should have been done along time ago.I think
that since VC and Mike took the time to fix the site this way and
CLEARLY labeled the thread sites, we should make an honest effort and
start threads where they need to be.

Sorry guys! I think I have been responsible for one or two errant posts.
Not the brightest bulb in the string here so please give me a gentle tap
on the head with a sledgehammer if I do that. happy drinker

I have to agree with this. When I first joined JSH, I found it
difficult to post, and then to find topics again and to keep up with
discussions. It made it hard to get to know people too.

I found a place in the religion topic but missed the lighter side of
conversation. Coming back to this I found I still have the same
difficulties.

It really is better to try to keep within the topic. After all it is a
place to meet and get to know people that you find commonality with.

I dont know what to say here.
What does General mean? Wide range of possibilities I think so anything
said would be drawing straws.
Now, talk about revolving threads and I would say OK.
Way to many, and I gave up trying to keep up, as I feel many have. I
have searched for a conversation that was taking place yesterday many
times and noticed you must look back 2 1/2 pages to find yesterday. Then
look through another 2 1/2 pages to find the topic you are searching
for.
I think this stems from people's vanity to see their name on the one who
posted it, or wishy washy people who can not find it within theirselves
to discuss more than one thing in one thread. If I were to offer a
suggestion to improve it. I would say take away the ability to start a
new thread, and wipe the pages in the thread clean at a given time every
2 days, so they dont become 1000 pages long.

I try to just ignore it most of the time, as it usually IS just a case
of not paying attention, or like me at times, being asleep at the
keyboard lol.

But the posts have started piling up in wrong areas again, so I thought
maybe a gentle tap on the shoulder would help.

I have not seen any other sites but I like the format here. How do other
sites do it? The way I see it is if a subject doesn't garner attention
it moves down on its way to oblivion and that way the board isnt't
cluttered with topics that haven't been discussed for some time, keeping
it lively and uncluttered. Just my opinion but I like the setup.

>> I think I have been responsible for one or two errant posts.

Zap, I've also been responsible for one or two errant posts...but thats
not going to cause problems. Like Daniel said, we don't need
perfection. Its when people make it a regular habit to post out of
category that problems start to arise.

Fanta, Thats so annoying! And some people making that -worse-, but
posting stuff in general like 'humor items' that belong under 'Jokes &
Funny Stories'.

I understand for most people, this is just an accident or a
misunderstanding, and they just need to have it explained to them.

I'm guilty of posting in the wrong section, received a slap on the
wrist, and won't be doing it again.glasses

Scoo, I think there are several, closely related topics here... to my
mind, the topic was 'how do we use the forum categories properly, and
how can we encourage newcomers to do the same'.
