London is a small town compared to Toronto, but I moved here at the end of the exam season, so most of the students went home when I showed up. The locals are EXTREMELY nice folks. They are helpful, giving, and they laugh at my jokes, no matter what. Healthy, honest, belly-jingling laughs.
The servers and clerks at stores are super polite, like everyone else. They give more respect than a nuncius gives to the pope on an Easter Monday. I'm still in Toronto mode, sometimes I forget where I am and I insist on proving my point. I decided not to rock any boats here, because the townfolk are so nice that it can't be improved where it counts the most. So... hotspots? Flats? It's mainly new, 10-20 year old houses around campus, with all the amenities you could easily ask for and then some. My landlady, for instance, brings me hot cocoa in the morning, and sings me sweet lullabies at night. Her husband taught me how to forge swords in the bestest of samurai tradition. Their kid is a computer whiz, he gets good mark, and so do all his friends, and all his enemies fail all their subjects. The daughter is learning how to sing, and she is protective of her boyfriend and her Barbie collection. She is in that difficult age, but hopefully she'll grow out of it. |
