(CNN) -- A replica of a World Cup trophy seized by Colombian authorities at the Bogota airport was made of cocaine, police said.

Gold paint in "bad condition" on the trophy's surface aroused the suspicion of investigators, who sent a sample of the trophy to a laboratory for forensic testing, the Colombian National Police said Saturday.

Results revealed that the replica was made of 24 pounds (11 kilograms) of cocaine, police said.

The 14-inch (36 centimeter) replica was packed along with several team jerseys in a shipment headed to Madrid, Spain.

The real trophy, designed by Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga, is the same height, but is made of solid 18-carat gold and weighs 13.6 pounds (6,175 grams). It bears the engraved year and name of each World Cup winner since 1974, according to FIFA, the international football federation.

I guess when they're released they can get a showing in the same gallery that featured the 'work' of Mapplethorpe and his crowd ... this is, after all, the kinda behavior that gets rewarded now.

i think they ment that it's solid 18k, the gold mix, not the statue...it seems impossible that coke would weigh more than gold...

Yeah, I interpreted 'solid' as 'pure', not 'solid' as 'continuous, filled 3d shape'. In other words, I think they meant #3, not #2:

1a Of definite shape and volume; not liquid or gaseous.
1b Firm or compact in substance.
2 Not hollowed out: a solid block of wood.
3 Being the same substance or color throughout: solid gold.

So I'm assuming the real statue is hollow, and the cocaine statue is not hollow. If the real statue is not hollow, then I'm mystified.
