Why is it whenever I don't EAT for 5 6 hrs or when I drink WINE I get HEARTBURN? Maybe this is a QUESTION for MELODY? wine is acidic and could be causing a reflux. your stomach has a lining made for acid, but your esophagus doesn't. So it's like throwing battery acid on your skin. Getting heartburn from not eating for 5 to 6 hours may be caused by stress. Or from what ever your drinking in that time period not being absorbed and adding to the reflux. |

Or from what ever your drinking in that time period not being absorbed and adding to the reflux. Agreed, and also, waiting to eat for 5 or 6 hours is unhealthy. Eating 5 to 6 small meals a day – about 2 or 3 hours apart – is optimal. Skipping meals causes: - Glycogen storage deposits found in the liver and muscle become depleted. - As the glucose levels drop, the body looks for other sources of fuel. Since the brain and nerves prefer energy from glucose, protein tissues (muscle and liver) are broken down. - In efforts to preserve the remaining protein, the body starts to metabolize fat for energy in the form of ketone bodies (acetoacetic acid). The process of using ketone bodies as fuel is called ketosis and causes the following: - Nausea - Fatigue - Constipation - Lowered blood pressure - Elevated uric acid (kidney disease) - Stale taste in mouth - Weight gain Basically you put your body into “starvation mode.” Debbie, your profile says you are a fitness trainer and nutritionist - I assumed you know all this stuff too. |
