what does it have to do with seat belts? |

Old song willing... what does it have to do with seat belts? But a goodie. Not everyone has heard it. Before their times. Seatbelt Laws are control Laws. Another way to draw in bucks for Cities and States. |

When seat belts first came out and were 'optional', I was okay with that - didn't wear it, 'cuz it was 'optional'. Then they made it 'mandatory'. That pizzed me off, 'cuz I din't WANT to wear one. Since those days, I've been in enough ... umm - 'events, let's call 'em ... to appreciate the fact that they DO work and that my young asss woulda been seriously compromised and possibly badly injured if I hadn't had one on, so I don't question or complain about 'em anymore ...

Cool with that and good to see you made it out alive. If they are going to make it mandatory, they should recall all the old ones and replace them with belts that will release in case you land upside down. Like, in the water or when there's a chance of fire from leaking gas. |

When I was 18, I flipped a car 7 times.
Because I was wearing a seat belt I was able to walk away, though I was hurting, I lived. I am against it being "law", I'll always put it on for my safety and I'm not going to give em' a reason to harass an other wise innocent motorist. |

The state of Utah is having their bi- annual "click it or ticket" campaign this summer. So I got a seat belt ticket last week... It's a $52 ticket, no biggie, done. Ya get 2 weeks to pay the fine or you have a warrant for your arrest. I don't like seat belts, I don't want to wear a seat belt and I don't like being forced to wear one. I think this is one of those personal choice things. I disagree with seatbelt laws too! |

Good topic! I am not one for wearing seat belts either. But my daughter keeps getting on me about it.
She is one that wears it all the time.As of today, I will start wearing mine..... Seems like we agree with the law for our children!Great,But has anybody took into consideration that by us not wearing one,We become a great threat to the kid? We could be the very thing that kills them...If they are belted, and we are not. They stay put, we fly around. And frankly,I could never live with myself if because I was not belted. And killed my child or anyone else. |

It was my 26 year old son who kept telling me to buckle up. He was with me a few days later when I got pulled over....needless to say he's really enjoyed the 'i told ya so' routine. Brat!

I don't think it should be a law for adults. I don't really care about dying in a car crash but being permanently injured in one scares the hell out of me. Just put it on! Get one of those fuzzy covers for it and roll in style. DITTO! Next year take the $52.00 and send it to MADD or some worthy cause of YOUR choice. |

All I have to say about this is, if you don't wear one and DIE, don't expect me to sob at a funeral. Sorry, but if you don't care, then why should I?
I wear mine and my son is in his car seat at all times. I think it is piss poor judgement when I see people and small children without safety restraints. |

Please don't take what I said personally. <3 I am just speaking in context. In the county I live, it's very high rate of traffic deaths in the state at number 1. And in 99% of the cases people were not wearing seat belts. I hear the people I work with talking about how sad that someone they know died from a car wreck, but if they valued their lives maybe a fraction then it could have turned out a little differently. :/ |

I would like to live in a world where people could opt-in or opt-out of agreements in which liberty was tied to consequences.
If you really, really don't want to wear a seat belt - that would be fine in my imaginary world, and if you opted for it, then you wouldn't get cited for your personal choice. But, as someone who made that choice, if you ever got into an accident with life threatening injuries, and didn't have the insurance or the cash - then the rest of us just let you die. It was your choice. Seat belts have the ability to better protect vehicle occupants from fatal accidents than anything else. According to federal statistics, in 2003, the use of seat belts saved nearly 15,000 lives nationwide. However, even more than 6,000 deaths per year are related to the improper use -- or the failure to use -- the proper seat belt restraints during a car crash.
Seat belts save more than lives - they save the nation money. Every year, seat belts save society approximately $50 billion in medical care, lost productivity and other injury-related costs nationwide. This reminds me: for most of us, being careless with our lives is an kind of cruelty against those who care about us. |
