My sister works in Marine Biology in Florida. Her vessel is being deployed to the Gulf Of Mexico. I spoke with one of the head biologists leading their expedition. The crew has hazmat training today. They state much was learned from the Exxon Valdiz spill, unfortuantely after the tragedies that took place.

The difference between the Exxon Valdiz and the gusher in the Gulf of Mexico is not just the amount of oil spilt, but the difference in temperature, and the viscosity break down of oil under heat temperature in mixture with water. We know oil and water never completely mix, but has become soluable enough to appear clear in the water. This is why they do not know how far the plumes reach without studying the waters and how far out it reaches.

The National Guard apparently is taking over the whole project as of recently. They are hoping for things to be completed in the best and quickest manner possible. Let us hope my sister and her crew mates a safe and productive voyage.
