I agree. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It was like an 80's teen comedy with zombie violence.

When the earth spits out the dead.....They will return to tear the flesh of the living.

Zombi 2 '79 aka Zombie, aka Zombie Flesh Eaters

Starring Mia Farrow's sister Tisa. A man and woman trying to find her missing father, discover a doctor and the living dead.

In my opinion this is Lucio Fulci's best film. Definitely one of the best Italian zombie flicks.

Zombi 2? Yes, in Europe George A Romero's Dawn of the Dead was released as Zombi, Fulci's Zombi 2 quickly followed after Romero's film took off- but it was actually filmed before Romero's film was released in Europe. In North America Zombi 2, was released as Zombie, and in the UK/Australia it was released as Zombie Flesh Eaters. The film has over 20 AKAs.

Zombie Filmmaker Spotlight

WARNINGScenes and trailers below do contain gore.

Todd Sheets

Todd Sheets has been making straight to video/DVD flicks since the 80's. But the ones I've seen are his zombie films. I'm not a fan of his work- but I give the guy credit for going out there and making movie's on literally no budget.

Where Are They Now?

I don't know if he's still making films, but he does have his own ghost hunting group called The Nightwatchers.

Here's Todd on a radio show talking about the paranormal:

Zombi 3 '88

This is the official Zombi 3, there were numerous zombie flicks released before this as Zombi 3, though that wasn't their original titles....oh those crazy Italians.

Roger: "Hey, this Blueheart's music is great, huh?"
Bo: "Yeah, it's making me horny."

Infected corpse is cremated, ash infects the populous turning them into zombies. Another cheesy, but fun zombie flick. Thanks mostly to Lucio Fulci who directed part of it before he suffered a stroke, then Claudio Fragasso and Bruno Mattei came in and finished it.

Ken: "That'll fix ya, you friggin' monsters!"

When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.

Dawn of the Dead 1978

Still my favorite zombie flick, and one of my favorite films of all time.

Romero wrote the script in Italy, brought over by Dario Argento so Romero wouldn't have distractions

Old Priest: "Many have died, last week, on these streets. In the basement of this building, you will find them. I have given them the last rites. Now, you do what you will. You are stronger than us. But soon, I think they be stronger than you. When the dead walk, señores, we must stop the killing... or lose the war."

There are 3 official cuts of the film. The Theatrical Cut is really Romero's cut. The Extended Cut, and the European Cut- this is Dario Argento's cut. In agreement for Dario to help fund Dawn he was given total control of the overseas version of the movie, this is the shortest version. It was cut down to focus on less dialogue, and more action. (Personally this is the weakest cut of the 3 since one of the main strong points of Dawn is the character interaction)

Francine Parker: "Spam!"
Roger: "You bring a can opener?"
Francine Parker: "No, I guess I didn't"
Roger: "Then don't knock it, it's got it's own key."

Trivia:
Some of the actors playing zombies in the movie would frequently get drunk at a late-night bar called the Brown Derby, which was in the Monroeville Mall. One night they stole a golf cart and crashed into a marble pillar, causing $7,000 worth of damage.

Dr. Foster: "They kill for one reason: they kill for food. They eat their victims, you understand that, Mr. Berman? That's what keeps them going!"

Peter: "Ain't it a crime."
Stephen: "What?"
Peter: "The only person who could miss with this gun is the sucker with the bread to buy it."

Dawn of the Dead: Ultimate Edition 4-disc DVD set- featuring all 3 cuts of Dawn. An audio commentary on each film. The 4th disc filled with extras like the feature length documentary Document of the Dead

Zombie Films Gone Bad: Part 1

Some of the bad- not so bad they're good, just plain bad...

Night Of The Living Dead 3D '06

Considering the original Night of the Living Dead is Public Domain, I'm surprised this is only the second remake. If you're going to do 3D, learn how to do it properly.

Trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZvCxFkJayg

Day Of The Dead 2: Contagium '05

Hmm, let's make a part 2 to a film that's a 3rd part in a franchise. Yep, from the "masterminds" behind Creepshow III, the Day of the Dead remake, oh, and they're remaking Day of the Dead again, but in 3D...

Trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sWUdirAt9o

Children Of The Living Dead '01

Proof that just because you've worked on a classic zombie film doesn't always been you'll continue to make good zombie films. Produced by John Russo(who helped create the original Night Of The Living Dead), S. William Hinzman(Cemetery zombie from the original NOTLD, and cinematographer on Romero's The Crazies) served as cinematographer on this.

And the dead shall rise and walk the earth!

The Gates Of Hell '80 aka City Of The Living Dead

Another Fulci zombie classic. The Gates Of Hell have been opened releasing the undead, a reporter and psychic team up to try and shut them.

Theresa: "Mr. Bell, if those gates are left open, it could mean the end of humanity. We've got to get them shut again. At midnight on Monday, we go into All Saint's Day. The night of the dead begins. If the portholes of hell aren't shut before, no dead body will ever rest in peace. The dead will rise up all over the world and take over the Earth! You must get to Dunwich, Mr. Bell. You must reclose those gates!"

This is the first part of Lucio Fulci's Death Trilogy- followed by The Beyond '81 and The House by the Cemetery '81

Blonde gravedigger: "Will you check her out? Talk about a 'box lunch'."
Gravedigger: "I'm telling you, you'll end up a dirty old man reading that stuff. A pervert. A peeping tom. I saw this porno flick once. This guy in the audience got so carried away with it, he humped himself to death."
Blonde gravedigger: "Yeah, but what a way to go."

There IS a fate worse than death.

Night Of The Living Dead '90

Romero, Russo, and Streiner creators of the original Night Of The Living Dead re teamed for the first time in 2 decades for this 1990 remake. This time around effects artist Tom Savini directed. This is definitely one of the better horror remakes out there, in many ways the film parallels the original, but screenwriter Romero adds some new twists.

Barbara: "They're us. We're them and they're us."

Bill 'Chilly Billy' Cardille appears as a reporter in both the 1968 version and the remake.

Laurence Fishburne and Eriq La Salle both auditioned for the role of Ben.

Harry: "You can't get any reception in the basement, d!ckhead."

Tokyo Zombie was really funny... but the pacing was a little boring. Definitely worth the watch.

The NotLD remake was one of the better remakes... but I think the execution was pretty flawed. However, I thought it was amazing when Barbara's just like... "Look how slow they are. Can't we just run past them?" And then, totally against most movie logic, just does. She just runs right on past them.

Haha. Brilliant.

Guess I'm not as picky when it comes to horror movies, I didn't notice anything flawed(at least compared to most of the horror films coming out around that time) with the remake, and considering it was Savini's first feature as a director I think he did an excellent job.

Even though I do prefer the slow zombies, it is a question we all make when watching these...just walk faster than the zombie and you'll be ok. Romero was definitely commenting on this with Barbara.

The writers of alien... ...bring a new terror to earth.

Dead & Buried '81

Something strange is happening in Potters Bluff, and the sheriff seems to be the only one who is noticing the rest of the townspeople are not so friendly to tourists....

Dobbs: "You can try to kill me, Dan. But you can't. You can only make me dead."

Written by Alien screenwriters Ronald Shusett and Dan O'Bannon.

Janet Gillis: "Dan, I'm dead! Please bury me!"

Careful with that needle, nurse!

A film with guts. Lots of guts.

My Lovely Burnt Brother and His Squashed Brain '88

Quite possibly the strangest zombie film I've seen. The IMDB synopsis sums it up best- "Underground Italian extremely gory, gross-out "comedy" (in early John Waters vein) about a badly burnt morphine junkie who is turned into a zombie after he gets injected with infected urine by his pug-ugly, crazy sister."

Clip:(Contains gore)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKk5BmPb4sQ

Ultra ultra low budget. Couldn't even find a trailer for it. Or a poster for that matter. My copy is like a 3rd or 4th generation copy a friend made for me along with a bunch of other weird and obscure films years ago...
