Whenever you listen to any politician, just remember the Three Magic Words that apply to 'em all, irrespective of party affiliation: Power. Money. Control. It's ALL they're interested in. If you can't give 'em one (but preferably all three) of these at the 'minimum daily requirement' level, they have no use for you - or anyone. Since I'm from LA all my life and know about the oil patch and drilling, I can say YES, it IS a great idea. Why are we FORCED to drill deepwater ... ? 'Cuz the environazi crowd won't let us drill in SHALLOWER waters where it's safer ... in their perfect little Luddite world, there'd be NO technology, no progress, no machinery, and we'd all be wearing hairshirts and Birkenstocks. His agenda is to sell the idea of climate change to the American public and to the American government. As a result of adopting climate change-inspired policy, businesses must become more green (reduce carbon emissions, etc). To do this, they enlist the help of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, of which Al Gore is a partner.

So he pushes climate change policy in the best interest of KPC&B, because it is in his best business interest. He doesn't push the subject as a member of the scientific community (in fact, most of his "scientific" evidence has since been highly refuted). Rather, he pushes the subject as a lobbyist, and in my mind he should be treated as such.
