This was kinda fun to do, never tried it before. I work with special needs children in a middle school and attend an Art class with a downs syndrome girl, one-on-one. I am to help modify the project so that she can participate with the whole class. The art teacher asked me to do my own 'projects' also, as to model/show the student how each project is to be done. The foil art was this weeks project.
I first drew out my design on tag board. Then I went over the design with Elmer's glue, (I did it twice, allowing for it to dry inbetween each, makes for better defintion). Next, using a spray adhesive, I covered tag board with a sheet of regular aluminum foil. Then with a tissue, (so body oils don't get on foil), I rubbed the foil until my design was 'crisp'. Next the foil was painted with India Ink. After Ink had dried I 'burnished', in small circular motions, with steel wool. It didn't take much pressure at all before my design was popping out with a 'antiqued' appearance. This is a spider plant in a hanging basket...in case you couldn't tell. |

That is cool!
I will have to do a single layer foil sculpture and post it. they look cool but cave in when someone inevitably touches it. I dig the effect you got! |
