K, im thinking about undertaking a little project of mine that ive been having for a while.
I wanna turn a combo amp of mine into a head that will be able to support at least one 4x12 cabinet. as of now it only supports the two speakers in it and a 2x12 cab @ 4ohms.
and yes there is a very important reason i wanna do this. my sound.
Do you have information i could use in this project?

yes, a degree in electronics would help

a guitar amplifier just takes the signal fromn the guitar and increases th amplitude of it in ropughly the folloing configuration

if you want it to support more power and voltage (the bigger the signal peak to peak, the volume you'll be able to support) you have to add more stags to the amp.

what you might do is get a second cheaper amp head (pawn shops are a good place) and feed the output from the first one to the second

thats a thought. my only concern would be that that would colour my sound in a way i'm not really intending. i might look into just a power amp maybe

yeah whatver you do will color the sound. you just have to find one that you like

a old tube amp would b best. they seem to have a warmer sound and are prolly cheapest too

there is a video on you tube of Robin Trower explaining his amp set up and how he gets his sound. I'll go see if I can find that

this isnt the one I was thinking of but its interesting

his old video explained how he went through a Marshall head and then ran that through a Fender head to get the power he needed

but this one is kinda cool too

oops I guess the link would help haha

I got a buddy that started his own business building and modifying tube amps. Complete service is offered for your tube amplifier, including virtually any modification you can imagine. I can give you his website location if you like.
