At a job meeting yesterday, one of the specific talks was that we were supposed to "look pretty" while at work. They were telling the cleaning ladies that they really should be trying a little makeup on but not "warpaint". Like who is really going to feel like makeup when changing bedding, towels and doing laundry and such??

Then they proceeded to repeat it to us as front desk personnel. I politely raised my hand and said "No!". It's not in the handbook specifically, and unless I see the guys wearing it, I'm certainly not going to be. They hushed up real quick after that.

I don't wear makeup, and I'm not about to start for any job.

I can look just fine without it, thank you very much.

i dont know what to think of that. but yea i agree why should you be wearing makeup in the job field you do or any job if you feel comfortable without makeup.. that should be your pref.. dont you think... i cant really say that is like sex discrimination but its more i will pat yours if you pat mine

I just thought it totally strange and yes, sexist, especially to be so specific about make-up. Really now, I seriously doubt I'm going to see any of the guys walk in wearing it.

I can see something being said about dressing nicely and neatly, and then clarifying with a slacks and a polo shirt, since men and women wear that, but makeup?!

whoa

i'm really juvenile about stuff like that. most likely, i would have walked in with a face FULL of unflattering makeup. and then i would have (invariably) asked if they'd have a makeup lady to do my face in the mornings for me, just so i get the 'right' look.

i think so long as people look clean and and not shabbily-dressed that they are fine in most jobs (unless it was specifically in the dress code prior to my being hired0.

Sometimes sexist employers will try to disguise their concerns by telling you that you need to look "well-groomed" and "professional." I thought we're here to get the job done, and make the company money. Don't understand all this business about some wanting us to dress a certain way and look pretty. That conformity dress code doesn't sit well with me either at some jobs, like the hotel industry. All the little minions have to look the same, but the managers can wear whatever they want, yeah, that's fair.frustrated

I used to never wear makeup because I'm dark complected anyway & never felt the need. In the rehab program they thought you looked unkept if you didn't wear any. So, I wear it occasionally but usually just a little eyeshadow, mascara, & light foundation. I don't like makeup all the time & if I go to work not wearing any it's no big deal because I don't care! lol

Personally, nice attire brings better results. I would rather deal with someone who is in clean clothes and doesn't have the dishelved, just got out of bed, forgot to comb my hair look in any situation. Apparently, theres people who do need to be explained to that they need to sharpen up their appearance, or the subject would never come up. Everywhere I go I've seen people who look like that working somewhere. If the employee looks like they don't care, then you think the management doesn't care and they've lost my interest.
If it doesn't apply, then I could care less what the bosses want...Rarely in my life wore makeup, unless wanted to make a impression (meeting, wage review-date). Playing the game for me has gotten me more than not. Just expereince speaking.flowerforyou

I would go with the flaming red lipstick, purple eye shadow, transvestite length lashes, the obligatory beauty mole, a Dolly parton wig, some gigantic hooker hoop earrings and the bubble gum scented perfume that every stripper I have ever had in my lap seems to wear.

Should go nicely with my Madonna bullet bra.

Yeah, I wear lip gloss, and that's about it. I chunked the makeup about two years ago. I can dress without looking like I fell outta bed, but not doing all the makeup.

It was my pleasure to help write a dress code for the civilian sector at a military base......The military people started in with the make-up non-sense. It cracked me up when I saw your remark on when guys are wearing makeup...That is what I also said to the military hot shots.....Most got it, but a few still thought a little eye shadow to "brighten" their faces.....I looked him in the eyes and said that I thought his face could use a little
brightening" up but you are not going to wear any makeup are you??? Snicker were heard all around...

Final result was no mention of makeup in the code, nor should there be.....WE ALL look great with what we have....I have a lot of battle scars, but I am perrrrty
