Mmm-mmm-mmm ... FaceBook. Just can't get enough of that good ol' 'down-home' trackin' and surveillin' stuff ... The new 'like' button that FB is introducing looks oh-so-innocent, but you can bet your (insert favorite body part here) that at least ONE of its functions will be to track where you go, what you view, how long you visit, etc etc etc ... And they'll deny it at length and loudly - but it won't change the operative reality that you're being tracked. Again.

The “like” button will be similar to products from Twitter and Digg that let users share content with their social networks. Its new function will allow users to signal the content they like on sites around the internet. The announcement will be one of several that come at F8, Facebook’s annual conference which begins Wednesday in San Francisco. Some marketers said that Facebook would use data from these interactions to target them with related adverts once they return to Facebook.com. Facebook was not available for comment when asked about the development on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday evening, a Facebook spokesperson denied that the new tool would allow the company to track users. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Why no, little missy, FaceBook would NEVER dream of tracking you ... !" B'leeve DAT ... |

I rarely go on mine, usually it's just to play zoo world for a
while if I'm bored. Myspace likewise, which I only joined because my kids wanted me too, then they stopped going on there, so now it's only about once a month to talk to a specific two people. |
