OK so I had externship today and the more I think bout it, the more I get pissed. There is not much for me to do there.. room a pt, basic charting an blood pressure. WTF no blood draws, nothing really hands on like I thought. Deff going to talk to the teacher tomorrow about it.. if anything I will just call my old doc up an go there. I know I will get lots of hands on stuff there!!

There is maybe 1 MA there, they rest are LPNs or RNs. There is nothing really I can do there. Its pretty much physical therapy, I can't do much of anything. Cant do drug tests because you have to go through a course in order to do it, can't do any of the physical therapy.

Did you ask them to show you more stuff? usually RN's don't mind teaching- ask them to let you practice blood draws- ask them questions - pick their brains- be proactive- let them know you are not just a lazy kid wasting their time just to finis a course- show them you know how to do more stuff- gain their trust

when i did my externship- i was all over the place- asking questions- so they just threw me in- sink or swim- it was fun- hopefully things will change for you

They don't usually blood draws its really rare. There is only 3 things that the LPN an RN's do. Drugs tests, rooming a pt and a physical therapy thing. Only thing I can do is room. I asked her a lot bout the one physical therapy machine, would not mind doing that. But that's special training. Oh they do x-rays..another thing I can't do. They have an outline of the course and everything I can do.
