Topic: Whats the Biggest Lesson You Have Learned from this Web Site

I have been on the internet, for what seems like forever. I have posted on forum boards, moderated forums, and participated in thousands of discussions.

I like people, plain and simple. I adopted this philosophy, a long time ago.. and it does work. Especially, in the realm of gaining respect from fellow posters.

1) always try and be positive. "negativity breeds negativity"

2) Try and be open to others ideas. Although you may disagree with an idea/concept, there are a few things that can happen here..

The persons idea may give you food for thought, or may solidify your stance, or perhaps change your mind. It can be a learning experience, or it can be a slug fest. If you want to build character, avoiding confrontation is key. Wallowing in something, self pity, carrying on arguments, will do nothing for character building.

3) This really goes back to the "golden rule" treat others, as you would want them to treat you. I have never been a fan of the Jerry Springer show, and if that's your thing, cool, but keep it off the forums. This will quickly turn people off.

4) Try and use proper grammar. Not everyone can do that, i even make mistakes, but it is never appropriate to bash someone for improper language/spelling.

5) "dispel the myth" Have at least one true picture of you, on your profile.

6) Do not send sexual emails. This may be fine, once you have established some rapport with someone, but first contact emails should always be respectful.

These are suggestions, from someone who has watched boards for years, and if you follow the above, your standing in the community, should be easily attained.
Excellent advice O' Wise One! drinker
