I'm looking for opinions on job corps. This would be for a 16 year old that at this point is not going to graduate is just sitting in class passing the time and failing.

i have been to job corps myself. infact that is where i got my high school diploma. and not only are you able to get a hsd but also a certification in a trade. it is good in that sense but i wasted a lot of time there goofing off. lol. but if they can buckle down and get everything done they can be out of there in a year or possible less. but like i said it depends on how hard they work.
i think every campus is different but i really didnt care for the one i went to. i almost felt like i was in jail or something. there are a lot of rules and they do have a curfew to be in the dorms and have a certain time for lights out and they also get everyone up and off to class at a certain time.
i know i am only one person and this is only my opinion but over all i didnt care for job corps. they say they help you get a job when you leave but they were no help to me with that.
if you have any other questions please feel free to ask me.

One of my boys went and did this. He was in the culinary arts program...and did well, but gave up half way through. I think it's a great program, just wasn't a good match for my boy.

The culinary arts program is what my son is interested in but his grades are too low for him to qualify at his high school I went to the open house for the program there wasn't enough classes available even to the kids with good grades

They were all over my boy because he was an honor roll student and had never been in trouble..he was terribly bored in school, but then got bored there too. Are there others ones in your area..or even out of state? I almost sent mine out of state, just to get him out of Utah for a minute. Glad I didn't since he left anyway...

Job core here by me is really for the worst of the worst

mostly inner city kids

Three of them were arrested last week for robbery of a nearby store

ours is a tough place:heart:

he's not in any real trouble just rude as home and failing in school. He doesn't seem to even try at school.I try to tell him even if he gets a job you have to take orders,do things right and even act happy to perform whatever task you are doing

He must be a teen

yes??? I've raised 4. They are a sub species of their own!!

As moms we all get through it with minor scarring

but I don't think job core is really for your typical teen who is just showing rebelion

I think that atmosphere would be hard and a little frightning for your average kid

but that's the one here:heart:

What is up with kids today? I was very lucky to get my son through high school and he finally GOT it and he is in college now. I just think that kids will be kids!
Honestly, I think we try to give our kids way to much and do everything for them. I know that is what I did and then he thought life was going to be easy!! BIG MISTAKE!! I got cancer and things changed real quick.
I am very thankful that my son found out that things are not handed to him and life is very hard. It took him a year of blowing it big time in college~~but he finally GOT IT!!! Sometimes it takes certain kids a lot longer to realize things!!!
I don't know anything about Job Core..I just know about teens!! Good Luck and I do hope everything works out for you! Just have lots of love for your child  I am sure they are not happy with the way things are going either!!

saw you were talkin bout him needing to realize his free ride will be over soon and had to post again......i had to learn the same thing and it helped me some. every two weeks he will get a "paycheck" its not much but it will get him the necessities. laundry soap, shower stuff, etc. he will get free room and board and they provide 3 meals (not the greatest tasting). but he will have to learn to spend his money wisely and all. i went to one that was out of state for me and it kept me from quiting.
and yes the rules are strict.

Oh man!! Do not let him go! I was at the one in Cleveland and it was also inner city kids. Was a really bad place, fights, people stealing. ect. I was there for 3 months and saw 3 fights per week. One kid was shot. Other picked fights with me because I was white, I never did anything Im better then that. But it was just bad over all. They make it seem like it will help an blah blah. It may help some but for the most part its just bad!
