Topic: Cure for Double Posting

After seeing tons of double posts, it finally
happened to me.
So I looked into it.

After initiating a post, you go down and click POST REPLY.
All is well.
Now you wish to edit that same reply.
After hitting EDIT, you are returned to your post.

Look at the bottom, does it say EDIT REPLY or does it
say POST REPLY ?

If it says EDIT REPLY, all is well.

HOWEVER, if it says POST REPLY, you will get a double post.
You must go back and redo it until it says EDIT REPLY.

I do not know if this is the only occasion for a
double post, but I was able to repeat it over and
over again.

My hope is, the programmer can use this to fix it.

The only time "post new topic" appears, is when (during edit) it is the first post in a thread. From the first post, you can edit the title, or the body of the post, and select post new topic. This should not cause a double post.

This was not an OP.
I saw that too, but the problem was presented when
in the edit mode it would say Post Reply when it
should have said Edit Reply. Then I had to hit the
back button to back out and return until it said
Edit Reply, only THEN would it not repost.

the author should be allowed to complete delete the post....or even the entire topic whenever they choose..but I don't think they have added that function yet.

I have tried to duplicate this problem, and have been unable to do so. As far as members deleting their threads, i do not think we will implement that option.

I have tried to duplicate this problem, and
have been unable to do so...

Yes, I am aware...it took many, mnay times for
me to duplicate it, that is why the double
posting is more rare I think. Still, the POST
REPLY in place of the EDIT REPLY, while EDITING,
is what caused the double post in my case.

Now, each time I edit a post I check for the
correct button on the bottom. It has not
happened in the last day or so, of course :-)

sometimes mingle is just slow (well, it is)

and people get impatient and click "post reply" again to try and hurry it up

and that makes a double post

I think that there are a couple issues at work, here. First, when the original poster goes to edit the original post, the button at the bottom will say 'Post New Topic' instead of 'Edit Post' or something similar. This could be causing some confusion, as 'Edit Reply' is the button that one sees when editing a reply.

Also, keep in mind that it's best to always click forward, as opposed to using the 'back' button on your browser. That way, you avoid any confusion which could lead you to submit a message twice.

Finally, as Quietman_2009 notes, double posts can occur at times when the site is sluggish. There are certainly measures that we can implement to prevent double posts. It's not a priority right now, but I think the Community will be able to survive this.

I've been thinking because Mingles server has been a little slow that double clicking the reply button is what's been causing the double postings?
