| Topic: Alone... should I adopt a puppy? | |

ok here it is, I am thinking about adoptin a puppy, problem is I live alone and I work all week, if I get a puppy, what do I do with it till I get home? I'm sure if I leave it be to run around it will chew and crap everywhere.... I live in an apartment....any ideas?

check for dog sitters in your area, that has become quite popular! a puppy is a great companion!!

I live in an apartment....any ideas? if you plan on getting a dog get a medical dog for that way the landlord cant say no and cant charge you a deposit but you do have to get a medical note from the doctor though |

ok tomorrow I get me a puppy.....    i guess i never really realized that you live in nevada i was born in elko and my aunt just moved back to that area she lived there for several yrs and just moved back last month and i have a old bf that lives down in that area as well and i have other family members that live in reno |

What about adopting an older dog that is already house broken ?..
There are many good dogs waiting for people to take them home but because they are out of that cute puppy stage they are left there .... I have a few friends that have done this and they say that it was the best choice that they could have made.... Just a thought... |

Griff, make sure you crate train him, then when he graduates from that, invest in a gate that you can put up to keep it in the kitchen with paper. They also now make doggie litter boxes...

I suggest something past a puppy, that has already teethed, etc.
Also, you can kennel it, many workin' folks do ... Our Cocker Spaniel, that we just got at 2 yrs from Humane Society ... ... He gets our half bath as kennel ... Has a great bed, toys, food and water ... Even a nice sound machine ... He LOVES it! Puppies are much more work ... Food for thought, some great 1 and 2 year olds out there ...

Not easy really.... but yes I see the older dogs on that site as well, and perhaps one will accept me... it's all new to me either way.

Yes, it will be so therapeutic ~ you need it!
Crate is what I meant also by kennel ... Also, girl dogs are SO much easier in my experience! Just hang out w/ the one ya pick for a long time, go for walks, etc ... Edit ... Some places will let ya have a trial period ...

YOU might TRY a Cat,,,as THEIR much easier to tend for and not as damaging when your gone,,or as Laud.....missing you...? I hope you find your pet,,and good luck on here..

I had a dog that I had crate trained. Anytime I left the house he knew to get in the crate (Indoor cage basically). I never had a problem with him.....
|

The Monks of New Skete train german sheppards and have written a excellent traing and knowledge book that will help you understand alot of the dogs behaviors and how to develope a bond quickly, etc. I'd loan it to you but someone else has it. "The Art of Raising a Puppy", I think thats the name of it, its been out on loan for over 4 years.
