Well actually it was held in Federal Court, which means it was not in Dover or York, but in the state capital of Harrisburg. I've found it's usually good to maintain a low profile if you're not a believer around here. It's pretty much like being gay in an ultra-conservative area of the country.

Part of the reason the case went to trial in the first place was the militancy of the religionists on the school board and the people that supported them. A lot of that came out at the trial, in addition to the religionists coming very close to committing perjury. The judge himself declared one of the defendants a hostile witness.

I remember sometimes crossing swords with a group of religionists back in the early days of the Internet. More than once I received veiled threats, sometimes right in the public posts. Not that it would have made a difference, because I was spoofing my posting address and they had no idea who I was and weren't smart enough to find out. The SYSOP finally got tired of it all and just made the Web Board go away when one of the Mormon gun nuts got a little too obnoxious.
