Viv do you make your on hot salsa?I know in Texas you call it something different. My daughter makes her own salsa..it's much better than anything you can buy in the store. She uses home grown tomatoes and peppers when we have them, otherwise just buys the ingredients from the store and puts them together. She makes her own guacamole also. This is something I will really miss when she moves out in the spring.. |

I have tried making my own salsa ,but for some reason it doesn't turn out.But I don't have home grown tomatoes.Do you think thats the reason?

No...it doesn't matter if they're homegrown or not..it's how much you use of each item you put in and of course..salsa is made to taste...so everyone uses different measurements..be sure to add a little garlic and cumin...just a tad of cumin. Out chef uses Lousianna sauce in hers...not too much though. |

Cilanto is quite popular in "mexican" foods in this part of the country. I haven't been to the authentic restaurants, so I don't know what they do. (Yes we have them, because there is a large hispanic community here.) In my household, cilantro is used in most of our pseudo-mexican entrees... |

It is here also...but it only became popular in the last 15 yrs or so. |
