im not really sure this is the right forum,so please dont be too upset if it is.

i just wanted to relate a story and see what yall thought

i was going out with a lady,for 2 months awhile back
she has two cats,one of them the nicest cat..the other one,was weird..nice one second,and off the wall crazy the next..

i thought about this,but didnt say anything...
things were going well,until one morning i wanted to go to the store..
i was going to go alone,n come right back..but for some reason,this pissed her off..
so off we go to the store,shes muttering n im in the passenger seat,going wth to myself..
you know the feeling you get,when you realize that you have somehow screwed up so bad,and now the devil is sitting next to you?
thats how i felt..

so,we go in,shes practically snarling at this point..im just like,gotta get this over with,must escape immediately,so we get out of there,n on the way back she starts cryin n says shes sorry n then poof shes happy again...im just waiting for her head to start spinning :O

we get back to her place,go in,and the cat jumps up on me n starts freakin out..

needless to say,that was my cue,n i bailed the scene for good.

so,in restrospect,it seems like the major clue should have been the cats behavior was identical to the owners behavior...
any thoughts,or experiences?

Weird, I must say...and haven't had that experience!

But here is a thought...do you think just maybe you have/had that kind of effect on women and cats?

I think animals (like people) are products of their surroundings. I have two dogs! One is a great dane mix. She is my families protector and although very gentle by nature she has shown me on several occassions she will protect me and she has seen from me the need to protect my children.
My other dog is a yorkie. She is not the 'typical' ankle biter. She doesnt yap, shes never nipped, she lays down by my side daily and snuggles with me which is what i wanted when i got her.
The point to this ramble....I DO BELIEVE that animals pick a trait or characteristic from their 'alpha' and they do say A LOT about the person you are dating!

animals are very smart
when my older sister was a baby my mom had a dobie(that was her dog)
and she wouldnt bark but she would go to my mom an growl
and let her know someone was outside.
she was so protective that she wouldnt even let my dad in the house
LOL!! (very good dog)

im sure many animals have good instinks with there owners relationships, but i never experienced that.(now that would be
interesting though)

if you have a dog that is trained to be a medical compaion or the dog isent trained but can sense your pain. then you have one of a kind dog.
my sister and brother nlaw had a lab one yr and i had just had surgery maybe a few days before and my brother nlaw brought the dog over, she sat by me the whole time...she was feeling my emotions which was good...
i have thought about getting a medical dog just suit my needs..

I think our pets DO pick up on their people and environment. Mine are goofy and loving like me. They DO have their own personalities, though, and are individuals, but yes, the way they are treated lends to their personalities.
And, actually, my cats are an excellent gauge when it comes to dates!! They KNOW!!!

When my seizures were very active, I had a dog that, as soon as I started to go into one, would come running from where ever he was in the house and sit on me. Got him at the flea market and never taught him this.

he was a medical dog. some dogs dont need to be trained

Boy! Can I relate to this! In my case, the guy had 3 dogs, perfectly adorable and sweet, so yeah, the pet theory might not hold water, sounds like she was just nuts.

Dr Dosa had an essay on Oscar published yesterday in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Like any feline, Oscar gives a hefty portion of his day to sleep. He likes to doze on stacks of patient reports. Or on the desk at the nurses' station. Or in the linen closet.

When awake, however, the mixed-breed cat shows a solemn dedication to duty, making regular "inspection" rounds of the unit, sauntering in and out of patient rooms - as if checking on the condition of the occupants.

When death is near, Oscar nearly always appears at the last hour or so. Yet he shows no special interest in patients who are simply in poor shape, or even patients who may be dying but who still have a few days. Authorities in animal behaviour have no explanation for Oscar's ability to sense imminent death. They theorise that he might detect some subtle change in metabolism - felines are as acutely sensitive to smells as dogs - but are stumped as to why he would show interest.

In any event, when Oscar settles on a patient's bed, caregivers take it as a sign that family members should be summoned immediately."

no,in my line of work,i have to deal with lots of dogs.
most of em are very cautious,ready to bite etc,but after i let em sniff me for a few minutes,they lighten right up.
im lucky that animals can sense me..and i get along with most of em.

one of my friends,is scared of them and they can smell it a mile away

as far as the women go,that was a first time for me.

its funny you say that..my cat didnt like her,but her cats liked me..well,when the one wasnt flipping out it did....

When I do full moon fires and open a sacred circle..my cat always sits in the middle of it, the whole time...he looks like he watching a movie. Then when I'm done, he leaves with me. I wish he could talk to me about it...

anyways,she turned out to be fairly bitter afterwards,and i discovered that her last bf who she claimed was a stalker,wasnt really..
She Was....Yikes!
she started callin my friends,making a nuisance of herself.
i finally ended up changing phone numbers,which cost me quite a bit,as i lost old customers.

soooo,i guess i gotta be twice as carefull next time,cause i sure fumbled that one.

I have two tuxedo female cats. About a month before my live-in girlfriend left me, we're sleeping next to each other in bed, it's about 4 AM, and one of my cats lunges through the air and lands on her face, scratching her, she's never done that before, and she's never done that since. Maybe my cat was trying to tell me something.

So because the owner was bi-polar the cat became bi-polar?

Ha, funny. No, that the end of the relationship was nigh, and that it would end badly, just like an unprovoked cat flying through the air in the middle of the night with claws out.

Animals (dogs) are amazing

My furry boy cliffy waits at the door 5mins before my daughter gets there everytime!!!

They have instincts we can not even imagine!!!!

They have instincts, as far as what that encompasses I'm not sure...but I'm pretty sure it goes well beyond just hightened smell and hearing. Dogs have been known for years to go 'crazy' when there is an approaching storm (pending doom of sorts), they have also been known to save their owner and complete strangers on a complete whim.

But he never bite anybody before.....til he bit you!

I think people put too much in turning their animals into 'people'.
