LOL. Ok, I always was bad at math...and I have no clue how to figure this out. Anyway, I'm having someone haul a horse for me tomorrow(if it isn't sleeting...) and he is only charging me the amount of diesel it takes.

So...if he gets 15MPG and we are driving 31 miles and diesel is $2.79 here...how much is it going to cost? And...if someone could show me the formula to figure it out...that would be great.

Thanks!

Divide miles by mpg. 31/15=2.06 times 2.79 = $5.76 if it's 31 miles one way, making it 62 miles round trip, you would double it. 5.76x2= $11.53

At 15 mpg, 31 miles will require slightly more than 2 gallons. If he gets 15 mpg, then he will get 30 miles per 2 gallons.

The 31st mile actually comes out to a cost of 18.6 cents. (18.6 x 15 = 279).

So, 2.79 + 2.79 + 0.19 = $5.77
