Yeah, even if you don't abandon windows, it just makes good sense to always have a linux live CD on hand to help you through these situations. With a linux live CD, when things like this happen you can switch directly over to using linux, still access your data on your hard drive, and fix your windows BS at your leisure.

a brief warning about two Supposed Security programs
windows xp police,and avantquest system suite.

both are trojan programs and are a ***** to get rid of..i still cant get rid of the avant,even tho ive removed most of the files and keys.theres no uninstall,and most everything ive found online for fix-it topics just dont work.

the xp police actually spread so bad it crashed my pc.

if you see any ANY!! security windows that ARENT from your regular security,Stop!

i thought that was possible...ive noticed before one time when i opened a pic it sounded like my pc was downloading something for extended period of time...now i know why.


what i wonder tho,is why doesnt the security Catch the exe before it loads?

o im still having problems with this.

i still cannot get the avant systemsuite off my computer Centered,im totally lost.
ive run scan after scan with the malaware and the superspyware but it refuses to block,remove or delete it.

it doesnt show in the list of programs,so i cannot remove it,ive even went into task manager and shut it down to no avail.

ive also went into the sytem files thru the admin and deleted as many of avant as i could
the second i fire it up,the program reloads itself!!??

ive been all over the net looking for solutons,thats how i got the malaware n superspyware remover.

I use AVG, I think it works well to scan for problems. No expert here.

I agree about Windows XP Police ... they use a "virus scare tactic" to

With some software tools, they don't install a dedicated
uninstall utility - you have to use the Windows uninstaller
found in the Control Panel. And sometimes the dedicated
uninstaller is found in a subdirectory of the software's home
directory.

I've worked a project for a large County agency who uses Malwarebytes.
Kaspersky is a pretty good product.

But why buy software for home use? I'm an open-source advocate and
believe in free software for home use. When folks ask me about software

i do understand about the free versions of stuff,but it seemed like everywhere i looked,the free programs would tell you what it was,but not remove it,unless you paid.

when i go to windows uninstaller,it does Not show avant in the list of programs.

Many of the free software packages are on-par
with paid-for software - these companies subsidize
the free versions by selling commercial versions.

For example, I've used Avast! and Avira (when I'm
forced to use a Windows machine) - both are top-notch
products with ease of use on-par with paid-for products.
