When I was younger, never felt my name fit and used to search for a name I liked better. Use it as my pen name now. Have you ever done that, or had a mentor, or met someone for a second then never again and liked their name?

This is a job for the idiots down at Vital Records, DMV AND Social Security. Social Security will clear it up faster than anyone. "Oh dear a person without a name! How ever will we tax her!?!" How the hell could Social Security have missed this? Or even the I.R.S. ?

I had three full names on my birth certificate however, my con-artist of a mother lied lied lied about her name and age and made up a name as a father. I once upon a time I worked for Northop and OMG you want to talk about the Fed's up my woohoo! They thought I had forged my damn birth certificate! At one point I thought they were actually going to make me take a polygraph test! One of them gave me a hour freaking long interview and I explained all I knew and they clarified my birth certificate.

I got to keep my job, but I assure you it wasn't pretty for about two weeks. They thought I was a spy, a fugitive running from the law, every negative thing one person could be.

im thinking this too how easy it would of been for anyone to steal my identity..

talkded to m mother again and that footprint token ive used all these yrs for jobs.. she told me that the just wrote last name on it. and she wrote first and middle name after she got home.. said she never signed any papers at the hospitol stating my whole name was me at all.. also while at the hospitol when they brought me back into the room once that it was someone elses baby..she said she did name me fully there.. and they are trying to cover up their mistakes. however... she is now wanting to call them about my brother as well. that she signed no papers for his name either and is wondering if his birth certificate is the same. funny thing is when i talked to him earlier that day he had mentioned that when he asked her she acted strangely about that. tell me this.. if his doesnt have a name either how could this happen 2 times? humm..

dempcey that is a horrible thing to happen!! at least it was all there for you to see though.. but what a mess!!sometimes i wonder if parents realize the effects of the things they do, how it really effects the child later on.. unbelieveble!

oh and this too.. i was quite calm when talked to my mom.. and she brings up that <not me bringing up> that if i changed my name how thats gonna cost me to change my name on all my id etc.. i guess in one breath she says i do have a name, then in the next breath tells me if i do this.. because she really does understand that i dont have a name!

My dad knew a man who had his name misspelled on his birth certificate. They NEVER EVER fixed it, well back then, he must
have been born in the 20's when my dad was, I guess.

But his folks named him "Fred" and the hospital staff member spelled it "Ferd" on his birth certificate so that poor guy spent his whole life being called "FERD" --- now that would SUCK!!!!!!

my dads is the same.. his mom named him robert.... i dont know how this happened on his.. but on birth certificate they put bobby.... he did always go by bob in his lifetime.. but he was supposed to be named robert.. at least he knew lol.. i guess for me the real feelings come from not really having any identity all my life and now realizing it now.. honestly i would of rather them put deborah on my birth certificate that not a thing at all.. hench my name is spelt debra.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Who knows why they messed it up, clerical error I suspect, likely the hospital staff member didn't follow through on completing the form??? Who knows. At this point, you can choose to spell your first name the way you want, and file it on the birth certificate it how you want.

I know someone who is going through an issue right now too, he is trying to get a passport, but since the hospital waited a full year to file his birth certificate with the county, they are hasseling him, and he doesn't know if he can get a passport now. Who knows what he will have to do to fix this. Again, not his problem, the hospital didn't file his birth certificate for a full year, who knows why, but it is now going to mess up his life.

Deb Hon what I was trying to say is this shouldn't cost you anything at all for it is the error of several official offices. They are going to want it corrected pronto.

We are not that far apart in age (5) years so I know that story your mother told you isn't so forgive me accurate. My birth certificate is typed in black ink and everyone including the doctor is listed.

If you have been using Debra for 46 years on all your documents I seriously doubt they (the offices I listed above) will let you "change your name" they will just see to it that your name is added to your birth certificate.

wow a whole year weird!! i had noticed on mine it was 12 days, i also found out there was no phone number for my parents to way back then, when i was born.. but i am in utter shock before they entered mine as no name.. why did they not mail something to them? to try and contact them.. also marie when i called.. the notatons said... parents fled the hospitol without legally naming thier daughter

i have to gather documents and send them copies is all.. thank goodness i do have some, hope they are good enough.. as far as paying more.. no you have a year to do get it fixed and no cost.... however if it were to add or change a fathers name there is a 15 dollar fee...
