I think its very possible for someone to care deeply about another, even love them, but be scared of giving up the 'freedoms' of single living. It does seem, for some reason, that when relationships go into the commitment stage, peoples expectations change and that could scare people away from it. The idea of 'lets not mess up a good thing' is understandable when people are enjoying 'just dating'.

I have always embraced marriage and commitment, but after this last failure, I am more interested in having a REAL friendship for a change. Once I find that, I may be a bit hesitant to try and make it a committed relationship, even though ideally I think friends make the best lovers.

Thats how am feeling these days too. The friendship thing seems to be working and taking it real slow. There's none of the 'pressure' of commitment and we both feel relaxed to be our true selves.
I'm (and he) are in no rush to run into a relationship, we've talked and decided if it happens ok, if it doesn't ok. Much more fun this way.

I really don't care about the statistics. I only care about my level of committment, her level of committment, and that I probably should be committed. smitten

It's not the commitment that people are afraid of...it's the potential break up and heart ache that scares them.

Wow, I could not have said this any better! flowerforyou

Not afraid of commitment at all, more afraid of those less committed.
