I have been procrastinating about getting into lifting weights.I am planning on quitting smoking and drinking and getting into physical fittness on January 1, 2010.I used to lift weights a long time ago and loved it.I have my own home gym.My question is should I start with light weights and not to many reps or should I jump into it with heavy weights.Should I take amino acids while I am lifting or is there some thing else I could take to help me.

Yes you can start out light, just make sure you warm up at least 10 minutes before then if you lift for at least a half hour go ahead & get some more cardio in there .............that will tone you & you will feel better

Starting out light is best so you don't burn yourself out! I have huge biceps & I don't list alot I just do around 25 lbs max depending on what parts of the body I am working on I can do heaver weights when working back,& Triceps.........I have found my weakness is chest & shoulders so that's what my main focus is on these days. Depending on if I am using free weights or machines flowerforyou

Start slow, and stretch a lot, don't go to failure right away. Do two weeks at about 80% effort, then go to 100% effort/failure. Your muscles, and CNS aren't ready after a long session of a lay off! Make sure you stretch between sets to get the muscles to loosen up. Good luck and stay injury free!

I would recommend having a check up before I jumped into this plan. If you have been drinking and smoking ect. you want to make sure you do not stroke out.
