I have only had that experience twice, there was nothing to get over because the reason I broke their heart was due to how many times they had already broken mine. I felt no regret or guilt for leaving. Perhaps thats the answer, not to leave until you know you are ok with it.

I would not think that they have anything to get over... they leave, they decide when, where, how... it's a selfish thing most of the time... am I missing something? Why would they have a broken heart?? - if they cared enough to have the feelings to "break" - they would not leave in the first place???

A REAL broken heart will NEVER get over-it.
In their minds, they will ALWAYS and FOREVER,,,recall being HURT. Ask a old person say 80, who still has their wit,,wink THEY can still tell you of,,their first broken heart... The only way to get PAST being HURT,,,is to go-on. To stop thinking about them,,by getting YOUR mind on OTHERs,,,,lol Or other things to keep the mind busy....
