This is such a horrid issue Fanta. I don't think there's any quick
answer, or one that Americans will agree on. This is what I know...That there are many laws in America that are broken everyday...By legal Americans I hate to view this issue as "just" an illegal issue.. as much as I do a human issue. My heart wont' allow it... We used to be a Nation of tolerance....Look at where we came from. Beginning eons ago when my own great 9 x's removed grandmother protected the lives and rights of immigrants who came to this country from the attacks of extended family..called the Cherokees. She herself in Washington DC signed her name to treaties of the New American government...the promises that were broken... Is it cut and dry? No it is not...Is it simple? It never will be. I know illegal immigrants on a very deep level. I have taught them English.I have picked them up in the middle of the night after they have taken some very dangerous journey's to fight their way into this country....Have you ever seen a person gone through such plight...One a 22 year old young man with a bachelors degree....scared to death from the ordeal...Here to make money to send home to his family...I spent every sunday with this young man teaching him english for 6 months... I have listened to the stories of their lives in Mexico. Do I blame them for wanting to be here. Absolutely not. I don't care if that angers anyone...it's not a consequence in my life...as I did what my heart told me to do. The anger that this may bring is no consequence ither.. Would I do what I had to do to get my children by my side...yes I would...if I had come from which they came... I don't think that this issue will ever be clear cut...ever...as there are too many people that think America is owned by them...There will always be people that seek a better life...always... This issue is a passionate one, whether you are for or against... |

Awesome post JJ.
From a humanitarian perspective...one human supporting another. Irrespective of the implications...thankyou JJ...some reality. My thoughts... Why would one so desparatelty want to do whatever they can to give their families a better life, even if it means risking their lives to cross deserts, and risk all sorts of harsh treatment. It is not in all appearances sake, such a hard thing to nut out. |

Good morning Lee

Hello you.
Do you have a day off? I was wondering, has the POk!! Pok!! Pok!! had a rest? |
|
|
|
I really wasnt looking at it as a legal or illegal point either ladies.
I was trying to look at it as a responsible thing to do in regards to your child! That is a big chance to take. To leave your child and travel, with risks to yourself while leaving your children in the hands of complete strangers. Hoping that you will see them again, and then have these people drug them so they wont talk and give up the plan!!! |

LMAO! I go back to work tomorrow....I have had a bit of a rough week
healthwise. Yesterday had to go to a dentist because of an abcessed toothe...ok...they don't use novacaine here...ouch!!! I'm sitting here , my tooth packed with arsenic to kill the root But other wise I'm great! |

I understand completely what you were saying Fanta...but knowing the
small fraction that I know...I would say yes again |
|

Yes Jess, I am in favor of LEGAL immigration. Do you all have any free
jail cells over there? Because they are not all the nice ones. State troopers stopped a large moving truck that was going very slowly and weaving on the interstate here last week to find three illegal immigrants hauling 1.5 tons of marijuana, obviously on the fast track to a better life. Now we get to pay for their confinement. Or jails are full of illegal immigrants who have comitted crimes from theft, torape, and murder.. How does Australia deal with illegal immigrants? Can we lend you some? It would be interesting to see how people's opinions change when the problem is in THEIR back yard. |

Fanta I hear you.
I hear the desparation, to do this..to a child...how horrible, and yet so desparate a measure. I watched a movie once, I can't recall the name...of a woman desparately trying to get her family out of Cambodia...she managed to get on a bus...to slip in un noticed, as such, by the 'bad guys', and then there was a halt, on the road and a search. So many were on that over crowded bus, so many that were fearing for their lives. She held that baby soo, tight, as it was starting to squawl, she muffled the baby's cries against her chest, the tension palpable... When all was done, and the bus continued on it's way....one big fat tear rolled down her cheek... and the baby never cried again. My point in all this...that may have been a movie, but was based on real circumstances, that happened... People do desperate things, in desperate times. There were many lives at stake on that bus. As there is also, less risk to the child, if they are left at their homes, safe, until the parent can afford to smuggle them in, in a kinder way than crossing deserts. |

We have refugees....thousands of them yearly, fleeing Timor, and other
impoverished nations.... and the public outcry at the way these refugees were detained, has added another nail in the coffin for this government, Steve. The whole human rights, thing is where most come from. And I dont want us to all get steamed up...we have differing veiws. And yes Australia has less numbers of refugees, who are detained, in camps, until they can be processed....very very few, are sent back. Most are classified as refugees and awarded that status. We dont get it right either. And we do have the advantage of being surrounded by sea, so is less of a situation, that in the US. I am not condemning...I am looking ONLY at the humanitarian veiw. |

So what do these parents do now? Go home???
Turn themselves in and go home? That was a big decision and choice they made. If one of the women in my family did this. I would tell them there is nothing more precious than their children, nothing and I would find it hard to forgive them for taking such a risk. Im not rich either, and life is a struggle, but to do this would take some extenuating circumstance that I can not imagine... |

I saw that movie Jess, but my thoughts were more directed toward anger
at that mother than understanding. Those people were adults, the child was helpless and innocent. My dad taught us that if we arent willing to suffer the consequences for our actions then we should not do them. I f we do and get caught man up!!!!accept the punishment, |
|
|
|
I agree...and I try to project myself into the situation...of the
refugees, illegal immigrants, whatever term we want to use... What would I do? How would I do things? What sacrifices would I make for my children? What would I do? |

No novacaine? Man, that's rough. I'm not much for
drinking alcohol but I would certainly have to revisit the issue at that point! |
|
|
|
I was too skeered to post a reply to JJ, about that, my mouth went out
in sympathy.. Do you have access to oil of cloves, lovely? And arsenic? hello? |
|
|
|
Nope no novacaine...yegads...that drill certainly sounded ominous...and
the arsenic thing is practiced here as well as in russia. It really tastes kind of icky |
|

Hugs for you, JJ...and ummm...I hope you feel
more like you, soon. |
