A couple of 'Whirlwinds' blow through here every now and then at the Mingle.

Hot, Fast, Steamy, Ending suddenly.

And thats before they met face to face.

Sooooo...
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

A whirlwind romance is one thats starts fast and hard with lots of passion that fizzles out just as quickly

I have to agree!

Hmmm, My parents met, were engaged within the month, married at about 6 months, and have been together 37 years.

I personally would call that a whirlwind romance, but I guess it's not?

With a Whirlwind Romance you have to free up an undetermined amount of time, get a motel room and go to Walmart a lot. I'm sure of it, I'll betcha.
I had one in the 6th grade only we didn't get a room and Walmart wasn't around AND my Mom found out.sad2

While there are opinions all over the place, a whirlwind romance, has nothing to do with the length or quality of a relationship per se. Rather, as noted by some in posts, it refers to the rapid succession of events that for most of us covers months or perhaps years. It is a sudden thing. But it DOES NOT have either a positive or negative connotation. That is something we, as individuals, interpret and judge.
Words are often more precise than we recognize, and as a writer I have come to respect that precision.
Yes, anecdotally, a lot of whirlwind romances end...consider that 45 of every 100 marriages period...end in divorce. As for me, I had a whirlwind romance...it was exciting, blinding, wonderfully glorious...and it is not over. My mother and dad had one...they knew each other and dated exactly 20 days before they married...that was in 1935. They were married 63 years and change!happy Dad died at 89...mom is still alive at 92...and btw, had whirlwind romance, remarried at 86 (two years after dad died) and they are still together. happy happy Isn't life grand?

Yep, he met mom at the hospital she worked at. Refused to allow her to give him a shot in the azz. Sent her flowers the next day.

He claims her dog bit him and he knew it was love... Poor dog still takes the blame for it.

Oh, I forgot! My grandparents met on the boat going back from Canada to Scotland. Grandmother was living in the Isle of Man. Grandad missed her so much, that he left his family in Scotland, came to see her in Man. They got married. He came back to the US, while she waited for emmigration approval.

I think they were 50 years together...before he passed away
