There is nothing wrong with gothic romance. The problem with the 'Twilight' films is that they are moronic and unartistic. This thread is a chance to list some good gothic romance films. I'll begin. 'Bram Stokers Dracula'. Feel free to add to the list. Perhaps we can keep people from going to see 'New Moon'? I highly doubt it. be seeing you

james, didn't you say that you haven't even seen twilight?

if you haven't seen or read...then how can you make a judgment?

flowerforyou Lori,a valid question. I make these judgments based on the fact that I have 'studied' film my whole life. I know the difference between Art and Product. The 'Twilight' films ARE product. Another great gothic romance,'The Beguiled'. be seeing you

i'm not a twilight fan but being that you haven't seen the film nor read the books makes you completely lacking in the ability to judge and bash these works.

I may not like it but Stephanie Meyer did what any other writer does.. poured blood sweat and tears into her body of work and became successful at it. I respect her for her success. I may not like her writing style, or the movies but I completely respect her for what it takes to get a novel published these days. Its not easy writing teen romance... romance without sex. so good for her.

Until you take the time to 'study' this film, you should keep your unfair judgement to yourself.

on that note...

Gary Oldman made me want to have his undead love children because of Bram Stokers Dracula.

granted, just because he hasn't seen it, doesn't mean he can't make a judgement on it. he sees it as something that leaks brooding eye liner drenched pop culture fluid from every orifice, and if something like that is unliked by him, then he has his right to judge it.

i went for a very long time without seeing this gag fest, but i knew i was going to hate it. but one day i broke down and downloaded a bootleg of the dvd (hell no i wasn't going to spend a cent on this) and watched it. my hate was affirmed, and here i am now, hating not only this shitty acting and horrid dialog even more.

prisoner, once again i agree with your taste in flicks. Bram Stoker's Dracula was an excellent movie, and i'm proud to say is part of my massive dvd collection

I've never really seen a "gothic romance" maybe you guys can give me a few good ones to check out.

gonna go offtopic now....

Annnnd as for Twilight. I loved the books. Hated the movie.

I think that its success among the little scene teens and what not is what turned it to the monster that it has become.

I respect your dislike for the movie. It most certainly could have been better. The dialog and acting, for the most part, was terrible. It was directed in a way to please the giddy vamp-obsessed teens.

Alright, i'm done.

i thought both the books and the movie were okay, but that's it. they weren't spectacular...just slightly entertaining.

will i see the new one? um, i have teenage girls...methinks i won't have a choice.

and then i'll wait patiently for the next true blood season, lol...

i remember being painfully into wuthering heights...dracula was amazing...although i love movies, i'm more of a book person.

Two great gothic romance films covering the same subject matter. 'Gothic' and 'Haunted Summer'. Intelligent horror, unlike the 'Twilight' films. be seeing you

i think that if a person is going to judge any movie or book or music they should at least take the time to watch, read, or listen to it. it. judging something on its popularity or mass appeal is sad and unprofessional for someone who claims to have studied so much.

if you hate something just becuase so many people like it then that is only making you seem narrow minded and ignorant. take the time to actually review it.

then if you still find it total tripe, i will happily agree or disagree with you!

but i won't consider your judgement to mean anything whatsoever if you don't take the time to review it first. thats just wasteful.

My knowledge of film and film history is strong enough to know that 'Twilight' is bad cinema. If I were a PAID movie critic,I would have no choice but to sit, watch and review. With that said, why would I waste my time and money on something that I know is far beneath me on so many levels. be seeing you

After my rant,i forgot to add 'Interview With The Vampire' to my list of great gothic romances. It may have been homo-erotic,but it is still a far better film than 'Twilight'. be seeing youj

rofl A very rich Anti-Christ. Adding to the list,'The Company Of Wolves',an erotic twist of the Little Red Riding Hood story. Directed by Neil Jordan, the same man who directed 'Interview With The Vampire'. These are 2 far more intelligent and artistic films than 'Twilight'. be seeing you

wish i could have seen the wussy vamps from twilight meet the badass semi-feral vamps in 30 Days of Night. Edward wouldn't look so pretty after that!

and i still believe that the Terminator should have gone back in time to kill stephanie meyer instead of Sarah Connorbigsmile

*gasp*,never say anything about those "Twilight" books in hearing or seeing range of a woman!!! (grab the pitchforks)...sure i thought they were silly as some men do,but of course my favorite would be bram's dracula, minus keanu.
"I have crossed oceans of time to find you"...awesome
