The "there by the Grace of God I don't have to be disabled" mindset is not always so cool of a way to think. We all have our crosses to bear and useing a wheelchair is no worse than many things that come along. Strength is usually derived by love and encouragement from friends and family as well as personal attitude. A person who is not taught from childhood may not know how to cope.
what? did you get this post at all?

I wear hearing aids, and people automatically assume I'm deaf. Deaf people don't wear anything and they also assume I was born "this way". Grr, I hate explaining things over and over. My speech is perfect and I can hear... Do u think I'm deaf now? Sorry y'all... I get a bit aggravated this, lol.

Oh Gheez then you really did miss my point. My point was that ALL people learn coping by being taught it from childhood not from being born with or having a disability.
