Topic: religion ...a belief in the paranormal | |
---|---|
religion just like the paranormal is a belief in unworldly beings that exist in another plane of existence...they both use the same cast of characters, each has a belief in ghosts, demons, being possessed by spirits and each has an after-world or an after-existence
since no proof can be provided that either religious or paranormal beings actually exist is why it's more acceptable for believers in the paranormal to claim to have a belief in a religion then to admit that they believe in the existence of ghosts or unseen things that go bump in the night , and the ultimate goal of religion is to become a ghost or spirit that walks or perhaps float around for all eternity which is the same as a "Haunting"...that's why when asked no one can tell why a religious belief is any different than a belief in the paranormal ..... |

Paranormal is simply that which science has been unable to explain thus far.
Science is far from finished, it hasn't explained everything, in fact, some would suggest that it truly hasn't explained anything really. All it's done is describe various relationships of how things behave. For example, science can't truly explain what atoms are, all it can do is explain how they behave (after the paranormal fact that they obviously exist) In fact, if the "paranormal" is nothing more than that which science cannot explain, then the notion of a quantum field, with truly weird and logically counter-intuitive properties that actually defy the standard classical laws of physics, exists, is nothing more than a scientific belief in a paranormal entity named "The Quantum Field". So to be a scientist requires a belief in the paranormal. |

Thank you for the clarification. In that case, I totally agree. I was kind of repsonding to the last sentence in the OP: "...that's why when asked no one can tell why a religious belief is any different than a belief in the paranormal ....."
My only point is that a belief in just about anything is ultimately a belief in the paranormal if you take it far enough. Is there anything that we can point to that isn't ultimately paranormal? (i.e. That isn't ultimately inexplicable in the end?) If not, then everything must be considered to be paranormal doncha think? |

I don't need a scientist to tell me if paranormal activity exists..my eyes and ears tell me that it does.

If not, then everything must be considered to be paranormal doncha think? now you're getting into pantheism in which everything that exist is part of a supernatural entity ...that you consider that everything can be considered as being paranormal is one of the points the thread is trying to make ...that since you may choose to worship a religion you choose to exist in a paranormal existence |

Christians should definately buy into the whole ghost thing. The bible, on at least two occasions, has zombies running around. (the resurrection of Lazurus and Jesus) |

All I did was point out the fact that all philosophies, (even those grounded in the physical sciences) are all utlimately paranormal philosophies and beliefs in the end. And that's true whether you believe that everything is connected or seperate. It's all still "unexplained" which is all that paranormal truly means. |

And State(government) worship is the belief that humans, when anointed with titles like "President" can magically change reality into whatever they want. Even more destructive than religion, IMO. |

Christians should definately buy into the whole ghost thing. The bible, on at least two occasions, has zombies running around. (the resurrection of Lazurus and Jesus) Only two? According to Matthew there are many saints ressurrected with Jesus. This is a very "quieted" piece of scripture that Christians play down because they don't want Jesus to merely be one of many: Matthew 27: [50] Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. [51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; [52] And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, [53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. But there you go, right in the gospels according to Matthew. By the way, Matthew was the only one to make this claim. Funny how the other gospels felt it was either too insignificant to mention, or just plain didn't know about it. Also, it seems to utterly fly in the face of history since Matthew claims that these saint "appeared to many", yet no one wrote about this outside of Matthew himself. Clearly if zombie (or ghostly saints) had appeared to many we'd expect there to be many accounts of it. But it not mentioned in any other context (not even in the other gospels). So what are we to make of this? A bit of over-zealous story-telling on the part of Matthew perhaps? This would certainly fit in with mortal human behavior to tell tall tales. This leaves everything that was written by Matthew in serious question. If he has exhibited a behavior of exaggerating things, then should anything he wrote be trusted? |

Only two? According to Matthew there are many saints ressurrected with Jesus. raising of the dead, zombiesm, eating of flesh, vampirism..drinking of blood ....worshipping a holy ghost, a belief in spirits, demons, possesion, speaking in tongues, all the same cast of characters as a belief in the paranormal |

LadyofMagic ...a scientist may deem your experience as a symptom of frontal lobe epilepsy ...people do claim to have seen things as you described but the question that is always asked is if you have any evidence that what you experience wasn't just a dream or a delusion |

There was an old man once who followed me home. He was wearing very dated clothing. He looked lost and alone. He freaked the heck out of me so I didn't (out of fear) invite him into our house. Later, I looked out the window and he was standing in the street- and a car drove right through him. Also, it was very windy and he seemed completely unaffected by it.
Ghost? Angel? Demon spirit thing? All totally possible. I have however suffered from insomnia since I was a baby. It is entirely possible I hadn't slept in a few days when that incident occurred. |

I have seen spirits and angels all my life..angels from the age of 15..Sounds to me he was watching over you..I've got angels and spirits who look after me..which kinda explains why I've made it to 30 when I wasn't supposed to make it too long passed birth,my mom as told. |
