Her world was sheltered for so long somehow she liked it that way
Though it had been so lonely at times she'd wanted a man who'd "stay"
Not treat her like an object for a brief time or some trophy girl
So she took a leap of faith and let him into her lonely world.
He brought the sunshine when he came, his laughter sweet and warm
Somehow she felt he'd be different, a shelter during lifes storms-
For once in a very long time she trusted he was true to his word
And he had the most angelic voice she thought she'd ever heard.
So she met met him one fall morning, with her heart in hand-
Tears were brimming in her eyes, she hoped he'd undertsand.
"Here is whats left of my fragile heart, Its been tightly locked away
He took it and tucked it where it would forever stay
You've earned the right to carry it now"- with a tremble in her kiss
She hugged him like an innocent child who had just made a wish
Cupping her face in his hands he said "Honey, I will keep it safe,
Ill cherish your heart always, even unto my grave.
He locked his arms around her waist and lifted her to him
They tenderly locked in the embrace until the sun grew dim
The next day whe she awoke to see him lying there
She gently kissed his cheek and smoothed his rustled hair
As he rested quietly a tear ran own her chin
For the first time in many years-she felt peace within.
I know you wont break my heart, I know you wont lie
You'll be the man I know you to be, and never say goodbye.
