To be honest I never hooked up from a dating site, its just been in person and I never asked them out first. I don't think half the people who sign up here use it locally. It seems like I'm the only one in my city who actually is ever online. Yes, having a pic, ups your chances but I refuse to upload a pic on here for personal reasons.

Nothing wrong with a pen pal though. I've had one who I've known for seven years and are like best friends now. We write and call each other all the time. I think LDR can be bad though depending on what kind of person you are. The distance can be a problem if you don't have the transportation needs, loneliness, trust is a major issue for question of "they'll never find out!" And I really don't suggest it from the internet with so many pic jackers floating around, then it comes time to meet and they aren't who they claimed to be, or looked like the picture back in 1980 lol.

But who knows maybe you'll find some one special on here so just keep trying & waiting.

Yes, and yes. I penpal with soldiers, as well as email and IM. Also a friend in Scotland, and she and I send stuff back and forth. Enjoy doing it, and tend to save letters and such.

I think this is all very nice and is probably fun but I think the person that started the OP wants to find someone to date per penpal.

I don't even bother, I just make sure the first letter and the last letter are there and finish with a flourish. Maybe they'll think I'm a doctor?

I suppose there is as good a chance of hooking up to date via the penpal scenario as there is posting in the threads and CERTAINLY the odds go up when considering Mutual Match!
