I remember how excited my new cigar box w/ new supplies for school smelled.
I remember not being able to sleep the night before the first day of elementary school grades. I remember my mother washing my hair at the sink, while I laid on the cabinet. She always rinsed my hair w/ vinegar and would let me drink a half a cup. Then, her sending me to bed w/ curlers in my hair, pins poking in my scalp. Sleepless in pain, and for what? Curling hair that was/is super naturally curly already? OK ... I remember my brother pumping me to the library on his bicycle. I loved the smell of books. (still do!) Dr Seuss was my first favourite author. I read every single book that had anything to do w/ horses. LOVED library day at school too! 2 hour baths w/ my books and red/spice Life Bouy soap. I remember loving the SRA tests. Actually, I remember loving ALL tests and being extremely competitive w/ my scholastics. ALWAYS a race between Bob, Bruce and me. Could NOT wait to slam MY pencil down first, thrilled to it! Those two were my big conquest in life. Girls rule, boys drool ... Always reading to 'the boys and girls out there in television land', fancied it was my very own show. I remember how the day of Halloween at school would drag on and take absolutely forever to finish. That night, it was always just 'one more house' ! The air was so crisp and cold, made running full tilt so sustainable. Playing in the bayou on the way home from school; making that half mile walk take 2 hours every day. Saving my school lunch to feed to 'my horse' on the walk home. How my room always got 'stunk up' from some critter I'd brought home, convinced it could live in my bedroom habitat. WRONG! The expired hermit crab village was the worst ... How I played nurse for every critter the boys shot w/ their bb guns and 22s. Many a funeral procession, my yard was the official animal graveyard! How a year took forever to go by, summer was endless! Andy Griffith show began every summer morning, then outside w/ the mob until long after dark. We went to the roller rink on Friday nights, killer good fun: 'All Skate' ! 'It's Weiiiiiiiiiird' came on every Friday night. We always stayed up late to watch it, snacking on bar-b-q potato chips and sucking on navel oranges. 'Bonanza' was on Sunday evenings watched w/ the entire fam. I remember my mother doing the ironing for hours every Sunday, after church and Sunday's special big lunch. I remember how I was always lost in the fantasy of being either a winged horse or a fairy. I had a best friend cohort, also lost in the adventure. We would go to long lengths detailing our new appearance and talents each day. I remember the joy at the first bike ride success. I remember my Batman bicycle w/ the motor that purred. I remember how we would take roller skates apart to build go~carts. I remember hide and go seek games that would involve the entire neighbourhood, and last from sun~up until long after dark. I remember protracted games of four squares or kick ball w/ the mob. We had amazing talent shows too. I remember learning to tie my shoes. I remember summer holidays at my Grandparents on the Red River, picking plums, climbing the water tower, foot long chili dogs, dominoes, 10 cent candy necklaces, oil pumps grinding on ad infinitum, and catching 'horned-toads' that shot blood I remember how great Thanxgiving smelled ... and tasted! Leftovers that week were tie~in key to the entire ritual. I remember my first night in my new, antique, polished, shiny, queen-sized, brass bed. Thought I must be a princess, it was so regal. I remember almost popping waiting for X~mas. Then, spending the day outside playing w/ the new toys w/ the neighbourhood friends. All the better on the new bicycle years! I remember how the assassinations of the 60's just would NOT seem to stop! I remember so much, every little detail ... ![]() ![]() ![]() Edit scar: didya really think the 2 fingered-typist could really tap out that lot w/ out error??? ... ![]() |

You got your new license plate, they'd give you a miniature metal one for your keyring. The first TV I watched was a flat screen. You had to almost be sitting directly in front of it to be able to see the picture. What do ya'll recall? well i remember drooling over Paula Abdul before she became an alcoholic i can remember watching MTV and actually seeing Music Videos instead of reality tv shows! i remember the celebrity circus thing that used to come on tv once a year (no i'm not talking about watching the news) there's plenty of other stuff but too tired to think.... |

I remember going to McDonald's being a huge deal!
Skates with keys you wore around your neck. Being a wall flower at school dances. Being able to a triple back flip on a trampoline! (those days are LONG gone) First kiss. My first kiss included my ear, my neck and my lips. So sweet and innocent BUT rather a lot for a first! I remember his name to this day.... |

S&H Green Stamps. Lick um and stick um.
Jack in the box fast food. Used to stop there while cruising with older sister, so many things in hands - cig, doobie, huge burger, brew, that it took both of to drive. She worked the peddles and I worked the shifter. Those were the days my friends we thought they'd never end.... |

Huge, juicy dill pickles from a barrel at the local liquor store (of all places) Wrapped in a little waxed bag, by the time we walked home we were covered in pickle juice. STICKY!!
