Topic: Michelle Obama: Health Care is a Women's Issue | |
---|---|
Ok I knew it was just a matter of time. Now those of us who oppose this plan will be sexists.
First Lady Michelle Obama made the case Friday morning that health care reform is a women's issue and called on female activists to support President Obama's reform plan. "Health insurance reform and what it means for our families is very much a women's issue," Obama said, speaking to a group of female advocacy leaders at the White House. "If we want to ensure women have opportunities that they deserve, if we want women to be able to care for their families and pursue things they could never imagine, then we have to reform the system." Women play a unique and increasingly significant role in families, she said, with eight in 10 mothers reporting they are the ones responsible for choosing their children's doctors. More than 10 percent of women in this country are caring for a sick or elderly relative, she said. "Being part of the sandwich generation, raising kids while caring for sick or elderly parents, that's just not a work-family balance issue anymore... it is a health care issue," Obama said. Speaking before the first lady, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that insurance companies can charge women more than men for the same coverage. She noted that insurance companies in some states can deny coverage to women who are victims of domestic violence because they are considered to have pre-existing conditions. "A system that treats women like that is unconscionable," Sebelius said. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/09/18/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5320221.shtml |

Health care is a woman's issue. We're the ones that take care of the family. So us dads are just nobodies Did your mom take you to the doctor or your Dad? Did your mom see that your meals were healthy? Did she make sure you got your shots and physicals? Did she nag Dad to go the doctor and eat right? Did she worry if you weren't dressed warm enough or didn't get enough rest? Now..think about all of the single mom's too. |

Health care is a woman's issue. We're the ones that take care of the family. So us dads are just nobodies How many of you dads are taking care of your children alone...24/7? Maybe some..I know a few, very few. I don't have my girls 24/7 but neither does my ex. We are equally responsible. I'm the one responsible for their insurance. I don't want governemnt messing with what I have. Why do they need to reform the whole thing and not have a way to pay for itwithout putting us further into debt? If they say money saved through stoping fraud and abuse to the system then why don't they stop that now, put the money they "save" aside that would prove they can do it with those funds and then go ahead with reforming health insurance. |

Your children are fortunate...as Winx stated in her reply.. Think about all the single moms, the ones who DO have their children 24/7 and do it alone..are their children less important than your own? |

The racist thing isn't playing out as well as they wanted it to, so now the first lady is going to make it a woman issue. So my question. Now this has been stated are those who oppose it going to be called sexists? |

Some times people say the most insensitive, unconcious crapola.
Michelle Obama speaks to women that know what women face and how much more than pay than what a man pays for the same thing, an you can't even muster enough empathy to that? But instead rant about racism not working and sexism? Now Obama's wife is the enemy too? |
