the state of GA just signed a resolution to no longer support Acorn in any way....No more money..

The House of Reps. will strip any funds to Acorn as well.

The Defund ACORN Act prohibits any "federal contract grant, cooperative agreement or any other form of agreement (including a memorandum of understanding" from being awarded to or entered into with the group. It also prohibits federal funds "in any other form" from being provided.

ACORN: Pawlenty’s ‘piling on’ is politically opportunistic

Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s letter cutting off (nonexistent) state funding to ACORN is “pretty clearly political opportunism on the governor’s part,” ACORN state political director Chris Stinson tells the Minnesota Independent. “Gov. Pawlenty is piling on.”

The governor’s office did not contact ACORN to inquire about state funding, Stinson says: “The first we heard of it was when reporters started calling.”

Reporters may have been the intended audience. Stinson reads Pawlenty’s letter in the context of rightwing media attacks on ACORN that have intensified since “some indefensible actions by ACORN [staffers] in other states.”

How will ACORN respond? “It’s possible that the next step is to apply for some state funding to get a letter from Tim Pawlenty explaining why [we can't get the funding],” Stinson said.

Pawlenty, who’s pondering a presidential run in 2012, wasn’t always opposed to ACORN. In 2007, he signed legislation that makes predatory lending illegal. Stinson calls it “our bill” because ACORN’s financial-justice experts worked closely with legislators to craft the language that Pawlenty signed into law. The irony, considering Pawlenty’s statement today, is that he bragged about the bill in his administration’s “2007 Accomplishments” list (pdf). Under “other accomplishments”:

The above quote is exactly what bothers me about our politicians and Acorn at the moment. When republicans us Acorn to further their own agenda's, make mistatements, liying, and then pretend they never had dealings with Acorn themselves. And worse they will continue to use it despite that contrary news.....

I don't know a whole lot about Acorn except for the hoopla around the McCain campaign, and if they are guilty of something I too want them investigated. But it tells me something about our leaders, such as Pawlenty and others when they use this to lie to the people for political gain. Pawlenty is a republican, doesn't mean that right this minute some democrat is also using it's misfortune or legal wows for the same purpose. And that is what makes me equally as sick as hearing what Acorn's employees have done.

I don't know why the average person if they are really concerned about honesty in government wouldn't find this dispicable as well.

I think there is such a thing as a paid volunteer, but don't quote me I am not sure. I believe at a local store where he proceeds from sales are used to fund spay and neuter for animals, the a couple of the volunteers are paid a small amount for their time.

Yep...

Now that they did their job...

Throw them under the bus.

I agree something had to be done about the macine... But not ALL acorn employees are part of the machine...

Some of them worked hard in something they believed in...

Those that worked hard and had no idea what was going on will and should avoid prosecution.
