Let's say, the wars and conflicts we are invlved in now, got to a manageable point where, 90% of all troops could be brought home. Now, we have a surplus of troops. Those who wished, could discharge. Let's say 80% of the surplus, chose discharge.
With 17% of the nation out of work. Where would they find work? |

actually just because they come home doesn't mean they get discharged. They still have the remainder of their contracts to fulfill
First they get lots of vacation time, then they go back and train and train and train some more to be prepared the next time they are called out |

When the Viet Nam war was ending, because of the surplus of troops, we were given a choice to stay in or accept discharge.
Where would they find jobs? |

yeah but most of those were conscripts
modern military is all professional volunteers and have contracts. even offered discharge I doubt most of em would take it |

I agree with Robin, I seriously doubt they would opt for an early out, they would fulfill their contracts.
